Description
2 Sheets-Sheet C. MANSHEL ORDER TICKET 0R CoUPbN Filed March 26, 1925 Cet. 30,v 1928.
Patented oct. 3o, 192e.
UNITED STATES CHARLES MANSHEL, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
ORDER TICKET 0R COUPON.
Application 4ined March 26,1925.
This invention relates, generally, to coupons, either in the form of strips of coupons separated by serrations, or in the form of books, the leaves of which are composed of coupons separated by serrations; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to a particular arrangement of the serrations, whereby each coupon is of a peculiar conformation or shape, so that an individual coupon, when separated, may be readily inserted andr'etained in the mouth of an empty milk-"bottle, or the likethus being particuarly adapt-ed to inform the delivery agent of the' 'desires of the householder of the quan tity and kind of supplies wanted, being particularly adapted for ordering milk and cream, where it is impracticable or inconvenient to kgive such orders in person.
The present invention, therefore, has for its principal object to provide a novel and simple arrangement of specially shaped coupons or tickets for the purposes and use herein-above stated; and the invention has for its further object to produce as a new article of manufacture an arrangement of coupons or tickets which are normally -connected and may be numbered with a `customers number, and each unit-coupon or ticket being easily separated from its neighbor for use, therebybeing of great convenience .to .the customer.
'Other objects of the present inventionnot at this time more particularly enumerated will be more fully understood from the tol-l lowing detailed description of the present invention. Y
lith the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention conw sists in the novel features of construction more particularly described in the following specification, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims which are appended to, and which form an essential part of the said specification.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view of a single strip of separably connected coupons or tickets, showing one embodiment of the principles of the present invention; and Figure 2 is a perspective view of a oldable strip of such coupons or tickets.
Figure 3 is a face view showing an embodiment of the principles of the invention in book-form, said view showing the cover et Serial No. 18,439.
the book provided with a receipt-stub and a deliverymans return or chargeecoupon sepa-rably connected therewith.
Figures 4 and 5 are views of another style of book, the `leaves of which are made vin the manner 'of the present invention, each leaf showing an assemblage of separably connected tickets or coupon-units; and Figures 6, 7 and 8 are Aface views of separated tickets or coupon-units, said tickets or :units showing -diferen-t kinds of dairy-supplies printed thereon.
Similar ycharacters of reference are Aemployed in al-l of the said above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now particularly to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, thegreferenc'e' charac-V ter l indicates a stripor narrow blankof card board of any suitable length. As shown, lone of the longitudinal marginal edges, las 2, is somewhat longer than the longitudinal marginafll edge 3, whereby the strip -or blank is formed with the angular marginal endedges 4 and v5', as shown. Between the sa-id endedges,- and running from the edge 2 to the edge 3 are scorings 6, said Vscorings` being angularly disposed with relation to one another and also to said marginal edges 2 and 3, so that a series ofticket or coupon-units 7 will be formed, each ticket or coupon Ybeing in :the form of a 4key-stone, as indica-ted '-in said Figures 1 and 2. Further-more, the xsaid key-stone shaped coupon-units, before they are separated from the strip or blank, are arranged in such a manner, that the longer and shorter end-edges of the adjacent key-stoneshaped figures will lie within the marginal edge 2 of the strip l, and that the relatively opposite shorter and longer end-edges of the respective. keystone-shaped ligures will lie within the marginal edge 3 of the strip. Each keystone-shaped coupon-unit 7 thus produced is provided upon its face with a designation number, and with printed matter indicating the quantity and kind of purchase, as one quart of milk, and other printed matter indicating the manner of using the coupon-unit after it has been separated from its neighbor.
In Figure 1, I have shown the strip or blank divided into ive separably connected coupon units 7, but the strip may be divided into a greater number of such units, as indicated in said Figure 2, in which case the strip maybe transversely scored, as at S, and
at right angles to the longitudinal edges 2 and 3, so as to allow for folding of the st-rip in the middle, as will be evident.
As shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, I may arrange a desirable number oi' the hereinabove described strips 1 upon each other so as to form a pad 9, the strips being fastened together at one end by means or' a staple 10, or other suitable fastening means. In this case, the pad may also be provided with a top-sheet 11 in the form of a cover, which may be transversely scored, as at 12, so as to provide a receipt-stub 13 and a separable deliveryi'nans return or chargecoupon 14.
Suitable printed matter, such as directions tor use and receipt forms may be provided upon the faces of the stub 13 and the coupon 14, and identiiication numbers corresponding to the numbers upon the unitcoupons 7 may also be printed upon the stub 13 and upon the coupon 14, also shown. In all other respects, the arrangement of the coupon-units or tickets 7 upon the strips 1 is the same as that described in connection of the device illustrated in said Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings.
Referring now to Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings, it will be noticed that the separable tickets or unit-coupons may be arranged in sheets or blanks, as 15, see Figure 5, these sheets being vertically secured, as at 16 and 17,*and transversely scored, as at 18 and 19, the upper and lower edges of the sheets being also angularly cut or shaped, as at 2O and 21, so that thereby an assemblage of connected keystone or wedge-shaped tickets or unit-coupons will be provided upon each sheet, as will be evident. Any desired number of such sheets are thereupon placed upon each other so as to produce a pad, which is arranged between suitable covers 22 and 23. To form the book, the assembled sheets and covers are secured together by means of staples 24, or other suitable fastening means.
In Figures 6, 7 and 8, I have shown several of the detached coupon-units, ready for use to be inserted in the mouth of a milk-bottle, or the like, some of the coupons being provided with ldesignations other than milk, such as cottage cheese, cream, etc.
I claim Y 1. As a new article of manufacture, a sheet of paper or cardboard, having printed thereon a multiplicity of legends in spaced apart units, said sheet having edges and scorings 'defining a separable wedge-shaped outline for the space of each of said unit-s.
2. As a new article ofmanuiiacture, a sheet ofpaper or cardboard, having two edges parallel and scorings from one of said edges to the other, said scorings being angularly positioned with respect to said edges and adjacent scorings being at an angle to each other whereby are defined separable wedge-shaped units. p
As a new article of manufacture, a sheet constituting an assemblage of coupon units defined from each other by scorings in said sheet, the space occupied by each of said coupon units having at opposite sides thereof scorings which are angularly disposed with respect to each other, the said scorings adapting the said sheet to be separated into a plurality of wedge or keystone-shaped coupon units.
In testimony that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of March, 1925.
CHARLES MANSI-IEL.
