p' Application filed June-a1, 119216.v -s'eriai No. 117,573;
This invention relates to a bed construcends of the posts,` Y, The intermediate' `'contion and is primarily concerned with a necting sti'ucture'between the two posts of a knock down construction whereby the ends bed end member is oit' no particular lor esseniu a bed frame and an'intermediate spring tial importance in the presentinventijon but 55r Y 5 supporting traine construction lmay be may be widelyvaried. quickly and easily assembled and as yquickly A vertical'bar 'or'block 4 is permanently and easily disassembled whenever desired. secured to each ofthe posts ',l'at 'the innerr The 'bed structure which I have devised .inside andat'the inner corner of each post. A chicles many novel details of construction and kmet-al anglev member 5 lies against and is e0 arrangements of parts for ei'ectively attainpermanently secured to eacliblock 4, oneleg ing this end with a particular' type of supof the angle covering the inner side of the porting frame which is a feature oll the bed block while the other extends along'v the inconstruction. lt is an object and purpose ot ner edge of tlie block and laps over onto a the present invention to construct a device portion of the inner-side of the post l. A 65 of the class described in the simplest, most headed'stud Gis secured to the inner leg of practical, durable and eliicient manner as the angle member 5, the head of which is will appear when an understanding of the spaced a short distance from theside of said invention is had from the following descripleg. y f tion taken in connection with the accompany- A frame structure is designed to be detach- 70 ing drawing, in which, ably connected to and supported by the ends Fig. l is a plan view of the bed frame, the of the bed. Thisframe comprises in its concorner posts of which are shown in horistruction two upper angle bars 7 spaced apart zontal section. and parallel to each other and lying longi- Fig. 2 is a fragmentary enlarged perspectudinally of the bed, connected atvtheir ends 75 tive view of the lower part of one of the ends by two cross angle bars 8 so as tomake a recof the bedirame. tangular frame. Directly below one of t-he Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view angle bars 7 is an additional angle bar 9 of an end portionoi the intermediate supspaced from the upper bar 7 and paralleling porting frame structure between the said :the saine, this forming one member of alower 80 ends. 1 rectangular frame which has ends l0 Vand a Fig. l is a fragmentary vertical lsection secondside 11 located below the other side 7 of enlarged through one end of the bed frame, the upper rectangular frame. These frames. the section being on a plane longitudinal of are spaced apart and held rigid with respect to the bed, and each other by vertical angles 12, one leg of 85' Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken subwhich lies against the outer side 'of the cross stantially on the plane oft' line 5 5 ot Fig. 4*; bars 8 and 10y and is permanently secured Like reterence characters reiter to like thereto while the other' leg extends outwardly f parts in the differenttigures of the drawat right angles and has an upwardly and inng wardly'inclined slot 13 cut therein, as best- 90 40 rlhe two end members of the bed are subshown in Fig. 3. The upper frame comprised stantial duplicates, each including two spaced of Ythe bars 7 and8 is designed to support any apart corner posts l which in the design suitable type of spring with a mattress above shown are connected near their lower ends it while the lower frame may support an eX- by a vertical cross panel 2 permanently setension tothe bed which, as it forms no part 95 cured at its ends to the posts. There are of the present invention, is not shown or de-r also shown a number of vertical bars which scribed, being fully outlined and Vdescribed in may be of any desired type or design con acompanion application. The slotted legs at nected at their lower ends to the upper edge 13 of the vertical angle bars l2 connect-ing the ,y y
ot the panel?J and being connected at their end bars 8 and l0 ofthe upper and lower 100 i' upper ends to an .upper cross member (not rectangular frames are designed to detach@ shown) which is disposed between the upper ably engage with the headed pins 6, previonsly described, it being evident that said pins freely enter the slots, the outwardly extending legs of the bars 12 lying alongside of the legs of the angle bars 5 to which studs 6 are secured. a
A very firm, secure and rigid construction is thus made, one which is very easily assembled or disassembled and one which can be economically constructed.V The ends of the bars 8 and l0 beyond the `'vertical barsY l2 are brought to bear tightly against the angle bars 5 so that there is bearing surface at two spaced apart points against the'posts from the interposed horizontal Vconnecting :trame structure which supports the springs and mattressesof the bed; Y p
The construction described is very practical and has so proved in service. Variations in minor detail in construction may be resorted to without departing from the invention which is defined in the appended claim and I merece members adapted to be permanently secured in vertical position to said detachable ends, one `face of each retaining member having a pin projecting outwardly therefrom near its vertical center, each of said pins being adapted to enter one of said inclined slots whereby the other face of theretaining member will be caused to closely engage an end of said frame. f l v in Vtestimony whereof I aix my signature.
