Description
R. W. CALDWELL.
Baby-Jumper.
Patented Aug. 17,1875.
No.l66,845.
' IINVENTOR} ATTORNEYS HWITNESSES Q a M.
UNITED STATES ROBERT W. CALDWELL,
PATENT QFFICE.
OF ZANESVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BABV-JUMPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,845, dated August 17, 1875; application filed January 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT W. CALDWELL, of Zanesville, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Jumpers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a babyjumper, provided with an interchangeable crib or cradle and hobby-horse, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention when used with the crib or cradle. Fig. 2 is a similar view, part in section, of my invention when used with the hobby-horse. Fig. 3' is a plan view of the base thereof.
N represents the base of my baby-jumper, made in the form of a cross, as shown in Fig. 3. The front end M of the base is widened,
as shown, for the attachment of the C-shaped' springs G G. On the rear end of the base N is secured a spring, R, to catch and return the downward motion of the crib or hobby-horse used. The springs G G may be made in the form shown, or in any suitable shape to secure the vertical motion, and to their upper ends is fastened a bar, E, having a longitudinal slot, F, as shown. A represents the crib, provided on its under side with a suitable loop, S, to pass over the bar E, and the crib is adjusted and held on said bar by means of a clamping device, 3 passing through the slot F, so that the crib can be adjusted to suit the weight of the baby to be placed therein. The front end of the bar E is provided with a footrest, I, made in any suitable shape for rocking the baby.
I have constructed a hobby-horse, B Z, to be used upon the spring-bar E after detaching the crib. The base or extended bottom D of the chair B is provided with a pommel, V, to prevent the baby from sliding out of the chair. The hobby-horse is adjusted to the bar E in the required position by a clamping device in the same manner as the crib.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination of the base N, springs G G, slotted bar E, foot-rest I, and spring R, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The hobby-horse Z, base D, pommel V, chair B, and clamping device y, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the base N with its flat widened surface end M, springs G G and R, foot-rest I, crib A, loop S, clamping device 3 and slotted bar E, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
4. The combination of the hobby-horse Z, base or bottom D, pommel V, chair B, clamping device 3 and the slotted spring-bar E, connected to the base M N, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of December, 1874..
ROBERT W. CALDWELL.
