- the band A is then passed through slots 61 d d, and moved down from the free end until it comes into contact with the buckle.

IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 64,8 [7, dated June 22, 1875; application filed May 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, HENRY K. DU'BOSE and EDGAR V. CHARLES, Jr., of Camden, in the county of Kershaw and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Bale-Tie and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l isa longitudinal sectional elevation Fig. 2, a'plan View.
The invention has particular reference to the rope, wire, orother flexible ties by which hay, cotton, or analogous article is held in a bale or compressed state.
'It will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the rope, leather, or other flexible band, which is placed around the compressed bale. 011 one end of this band we place a tongueless buckle, B, having preferably a front friction-roll, O, and on the other end we use a slide-plate or fastener, D, having two or more gross-slots, d d, inclined toward each other. The band A is passed around the bale, then through the buckle B, and finally drawn as tightly as possible. The band A is then passed through slots 61 d d, and moved down from the free end until it comes into contact with the buckle. The press-screw being now moved up, the bale will be securely tied. This bale-tie is perfectly reliable under all contingencies to which it is liable, and yet may be furnished to the public at a very small cost.
Having thus described our invention, What we claim as new is The combination of tongueless buckle B andfastener D, having two cross-slots, obliqued toward each other, with a flexible bale-hand, as and for the purpose specified.
