UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR H. NOBLE, OF PAWTUGKET, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THEODORE 'W. FOSTER & BROTHER COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
LIP-STICK HOLDER.
Application filed November 4, 1926. Serial No. 146,165.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in lip stick holders, and
the primary object thereof is to provide a holder having improved means which-auto- B matically expel a worn lip stick and enable a fresh one to be easily and quickly applied.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder which has novel means of simple and compact, economical construction for effecting easy, quick and positive movement of the lip stick into and out of the holder.
The invention has still further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the invention withthe parts in inoperative and housed position.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the parts in operative position, and
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a tubular casing 1 is employed having a head 2 intermediate its ends to form a stop for a cap or closure 3. A stationary sleeve 4 is secured within the casing 1 and is formed with a spiral slot 5. A sleeve 6 is disposed within the sleeve 4 and is formed with an axial slot 7 and the upper end of the sleeve 6 is turned outwardly at 8 and is engaged by the inturned end 9 of the housing 1. A head 10 is secured to the sleeve 6 so as to rotate the latter, the head engaging the end of the housing 1. The lip stick 12 is provided with a metallic ferrule 13,
while a pin 14 extends through the ferrule and has one end thereof received in the slots 5 and 7.
The inturned end 9 of the housing 1 is formed with a slot 15 so as to admit the projecting end of the pin 14.
In assembly of the parts, the ferrule is inserted in the sleeve 4 with the pin 14 thereof received in the slot 15, thereby to enable the projecting end of the pin to be received in the slots 5 and 7, whereby upon rotation of the head the lip stick will be moved into and out of the housing as desired, and upon the lip stick being used up, same is automatically discharged from the holder or casing.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a lip stick holder, a sleeve having an open upper end and a head on its bottom end and being formed with an axial slot extending through said open end, a second sleeve surrounding the first sleeve and having a spiral slot extending through its upper end, the upper end of the first sleeve having an outwardly extending flange which overlies the upper end of the second sleeve and which is provided with a slot registering with the upper end of the axial slot, a casing surrounding and fixed to the second sleeve and having an inturned flange at its upper end which overlies the first named flange and which is formed with a slot registering with the axial slot, and a lip stick carrier having a projection engaging in the axial and spiral slots, the spiral slot being formed to register with the slots of the flanges so as to automatically eject the carrier from the holder when the carrier projection enters the slots of the flanges during rotation of the head and thereby the first sleeve.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
ARTHUR H. NOBLE.
