UNITED STATES PATENT DFFIGE.
JAMES D. FIELD, OF BLUE RAPIDS, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT lN BUCKET-EARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,818, dated March 16, 1875; application filed September 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES D. FIELD, of Blue Rapids, Marshall county, Kansas, have invented anew and Improved Bucket-Ear, of
which the following is a specification:
readily attached bucket-ear, which is constructed of a continuous piece of suitable sheet metal, which is folded with a central plait or rib, that is perforated for the bail, the side plates being attached to the bucketf In the drawing, A represents the blank or piece of sheet metal from which my improved bucket-ear is made. Piece A is formed of one continuous piece of oval, heart, or other shape,
and bent up along the symmetrical axis of the same, with a central plait or rib, B, that is perforated near its upper part for supporting the bail end. The double thickness of the perforated rib B enables it to resist the strain exerted thereon, the side parts or wings being soldered, riveted, screwed, or otherwise connected to the bucket or kettle, as deemed best. The wing-plates form thereby a broad and substantial base for the projecting perforated rib, and, make an extremely simple, cheap, and durable ear for attaching the bail to the bucket.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A bucket-ear formed of a single piece of sheet metal, and having a fold, B, perforated to receive the hooked end of the bail, all sub stantially as described.
