FILING DEVICE.

The invention relates to improvements in filing devices of the type employing a drawer or drawers in which cards, letters, pamphlets or the like are to be filed, and the present vice of this character in which a plurality of pouches are provided in the drawer to receive alphabetically arranged papers, or

papers or the like otherwise classified.

One difficulty heretofore encountered with filing devices of the type set forth, is that the back wall of the pouch, upon which the name or identifying characters are written, is prone to sag as the pouch approaches a filled condition, but it is one object of my invention to provide a novel construction in which this difficulty will not exist.

A further object is to provide unique mounting means for the pouch which permits the latter to be slid forwardly orrearwardly as occasion may demand and also permits upward movement thereof, so that it may be readily opened for removing or inserting contents.

Another object is to provide a construc tion which is extremely simple and inexpensive, yet is efiicient and in every way desirable.

Vith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a. filing device embodying my improvements.

The construction disclosed may be considered as the preferred form of the invention, and while this construction will be hereinafter rather specifically described, it is to be understood that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous variations may be made. for a container or pouch, I wish itunder stood at the outset, that my invention als comprehends the use of such mounting means for the purpose of mounting cards 0 or analogous devices used in filing systems. Hence, the term pouchhereinafter appearing, is to be given a broader interpretation than its literal meaning.

In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 7 designates a drawer having front and rear ends 8 and 9, a bottom 10, and side members, each of the latter being preferably formed by a lower flange 11 and an upper rod 12, the two rods constituting Y0 longitudinal tracks extending from front to rear of the drawer. 'The bottom 10 is formed with the usual longitudinal depression 13 which receives a removable longitudinal rod 14. Preferably, the rear end of this rod is threaded in place and its front end is provided with a knob 15.

A number of pouch-carrying frames 16 are mounted in the drawer and as the construction of all of these frames is identical, so only one will be described in detail. This frame is formed of a length of wire bent into the general form of aU, so that it is provided with vertical side bars 17 and with a horizontal bottom bar 18. The upper 55 ends of the bars 17 arebent outwardly and downwardly as indicated at 19, forming supporting hooks to engage the tracks 12 and suspend the frame. Between the ends of the bar 18, the .wire is bent to form a guide 20 to receive the rod 14, which rod holds the frame against accidental upward movement, said frame being nevertheless free to slide forwardly and rearwardly.

At 21, a pouch has been shown, said pouch being slidably carried by the frame 16 so that it may move upwardly upon the latter, in addition to moving forwardly or rearwardly as a single unit with said frame. For mounting the pouch in this manner, I, 109 provide a pair of pouch holders. Each .of these holder's is formed from a single strip of sheet material such as sheet metal, said strip being bent substantially upon itself to form a guide sleeve 22 and a pair of flanges 23 projecting from and extending longitudin-ally of said sleeve. The flanges 23 receive an edge portion of the pouch 21 therebetween, and they may be secured to this pouch by any preferred means. Preferably, however, claws 24 are stamped from one of the flanges for passage through the adjacent portion of the pouch and throughopenings 25 formed in the other flange, said claws being clinched upon the latter. The guides 22 for the pouch 21 slide upon the side bars 17 of the frame 16, permitting the pouch and its holders to be lifted with re spect to the frame, a distance equivalent to that existing between the upper ends of the guides 22 and the tracks 12. If desired, the flanges 23 may project above the guides 22 as shown, so as to effectively stiffen the upper portion of. the pouch.

The form of pouch herein disclosed, is of the folder type and the flanges 23 embrace only the vertical edge portions of the back wall of said pouch, leaving the front wall thereof, free, so as to permit unhampered expansion of the pouch as its contents increase. Moreover, when'this arrangement is employed, it is insured that the backwall of the pouch shall maintain its proper relative position with respect to the front wall which is the lower of the two.

' Whenever one of the frames and the pouch carried thereby are to be removedv the rod 14 is released and withdrawn, it being then a simple matter to remove said pouch and frame. Other pouches and frames maybe inserted also, when the rod 14 is removed and as all of the frames 16 are suspended by the hooks or the like 19, their guides 20 will be held in alinement, so that the rod l-l may be readily reinserted therethrough.

It will be seen from the foregoing that the invention is exceptionally simple and inexpensive, yetthat it will be efficient, reliable and in every way desirable.

lVhile I have illustrated the tiling device as applied to a standard type of file drawer, it is obvious that an ordinary drawer or box may well be equipped with the device.

I claim:

1. In a filingdevice, a drawer, a vertical frame disposed transversely therein, means mounting said frame for forward and rearward sliding and for holding it against upward movement, and means slidable vertically on said frame for mounting a pouch thereon.

2. In a filing device, a drawer having longitudinal tracks at its sides spaced above its bottom and provided at said bottom with a removable longitudinal rod, and a transverse vertically disposed pouch-carrying frame in said drawer having supports resting slidably and removably on said tracks and provided also with a guide slidably engaging said rod to hold the frame against upward movement.

3. In a filing device, adrawer having longitudinal tracks at its sides spaced above its bottom and provided at said bottom with a removable longitudinal rod, a transverse vertically disposed frame in said drawer having supports resting slidably and removably on said tracks and provided also with a guide slidably engaging said rod to hold the frame against upward movement, and means slidable vertically on the frame for mounting a pouch on said frame.

l. In a means for mounting a filing pouch in a. drawer; a frame for vertical disposition in a crawer, said frame having vertical side bars, means for removably mounting said frame in the drawer, and pouch holders having guides slidable vertically along said bars.

n a means for mounting a filing pouch in a drawer; a frame for vertical disposition in drawer, said frame having vertical side bars provided with drawer-engaging supports at their upper ends to suspend said frame in a vertical position, the lower end of said frame having means adapted to engage means in the drawer for holding the frame normally against upward movement, and pouch holders having guides slidable vertically alongsaid side bars of the frame.

6. A. structure as specified in claim 5; said frame being formed of wire, said sup ports consisting of hooks bent from the wire, said holding means comprising a rod-receiving guide bent from the wire.

7. A structure as specified in claim l; each of said pouch holders consisting of a piece of sheet material bent to provide a sleeve and flanges projecting from said sleeve, the sleeves of said holders constituting said guides, the flanges of said holders being adapted to hold portions of the pouch therebetween.

8. In a filing device, a drawer, a vertical frame disposed transversely therein, means mounting said frame for forward and rearward sliding on the sides of said drawer and means slidable vertically on said frame for mounting a pouch thereon. r
