PATENT OFFICE.
COLUMBUS D. STOVALL, OF LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY.
CHJILDS TOY AND nxnaersnn.
Application filed June 18, 1925. Serial No. 38,077.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, COLUMBUS D. STOVALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lexington, in the county of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Toys and Exercisers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to toys, and the object of the invention is to provide a de-v vice which may be held in a childs hands and which, when so held, will simulate a foot and which will permit the child to play with his hands on the ground so that the child may move about with both his feet and hands on the ground after the manner of a four-legged animal, thus giving the child an exercise which is particularly beneficial for it, which exercises muscles not ordinarily exercised and which also will afford the child an interesting and novel game or play.
My invention is illustrated in the accom- V panying drawings, wherein:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a child playing with my exerciser and toy;
' Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view;
Figure 1 is a vertical section thereofe Referring to these drawings, it will be seen that my improved toy or exerciser comprises a body 10 which may be made of any suitable material and is preferably hollow,.this body being formed with a somewhat spherical handle or head 11, a
slightly contracted neck 12, and an expanded base portion 13. The base portion preferably extends out in front of the body to a slight extent and the under face of the base portion is approximately horseshoe-shaped and will preferably simulate a horseshoe, the face of the shoe being formed with simulations of nails 14. This body is preferably formed of an integral piece of material and, as before remarked, is
preferably hollow and preferably will be formed of material which, when the device is in use, will give considerable noise or clatter as it strikes the sidewalk. Preferably the globular portion 11 of the body is formed upon its anterior face with grooves or corrugations 15 more or less fitting the fingers of the child so that the miniature hoof will not slip.
I do not wish to be limited to the particular shape illustrated nor to any particular material, as it is obvious that these may be changed without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims. These devices come in pairs and in use the child will take a pair of these devices in its hands and bend over so that the exercisers will strike the ground and then runs or walks on all fours, thus affording, as before stated, exercises which children do not ordinarily get and at the same time affording entertainment for the child.
I claim 1. A toy and exerciser of the character described comprising a pair of bodies each adapted to be held in a childs hands. each body having a somewhat globular handle fitting the childs hands, a more or less contracted neck below the handle, and an enlarged foot or base having a lower surface disposed in a single plane and adapted to engage the ground.
2. An exerciser and. toy of the charm-lei described comprising a body formed will] a more or less globular handle adapted to be grasped by a hand of a child, the body below the handle being contracted and then expanded to form a base, the under face of the base being disposed in one plane and the body being hollow.
An exerciser and toy of the character described comprising a body formed with a more or less globular handle adapted to be grasped by a hand of a child, the body below the handle being contracted and then expanded to form a base, the body being hollow, the base simulating a horseshoe and having its under face disposed in a horizontal plane.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature.
