' J. SOLARY COMB CLEANER Filed Dec. .17. 1924 ATTORNEY INVENTOR STA? JOE-Z11 SOLAEZ, GE CHICAGO HEIGHTS, 11 131131913,
COMB CLEANER.
Application filed Essen". or 17, 192 1,
7 7, w r 0 an, a mm it may 6071667) Be it known that I, Jenn SOLARY; a subect ot the King of Italy, residing at Chi- Liieights in the county of Cook and ot' Illinois, have invented new and improvements in Comb Cleaners, of n the following is a s3ecificat-ion.
'lhis invention relates to improvements in comb ch ners and contemplates the pro vision or a device which includes a pair of brushes which may positioned upon both sides of the teeth of a comb and upon pressure exerted upon the handles of the device the said brushes may be brought into contacting engagement with the teeth and between the same whereby all the extraneous matter interposed therebetween may be easily removed therefrom.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel form of comb cleaning device which closely resembles in construction a pair of scissors and owing to such construction may be easily manipulated.
A. further object of the present invention is the provision of a pair of brush members secured to the opposite end portions of the device and which owing to their removable engagement with the end portions of the frame structure may be readily and easily removed therefrom whereby the same may cleansed or when the same has been worn out may be easily replaced by new ones.
. above and other objects and ad- 'es in view, the invention further inthe following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully describech illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the app nded claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the present invention.
l igure 2 is an end view.
if igure 3 is a top plan view or one of the brush members secured in one of the ends of the frame.
fi igure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 1-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a perspective showing the invention in operation and in engagement with a comb.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts the reference character 10 indicates one of the handle members of the frame which has suitably secured there- Serial N 7 61575.
in a pair or companion leg members 11 and 12 which havetheir intermediate portions offset and flattened and adapted to receive a pivot pin 13 t-heret-hrough whereby all of the stress exercised on the handle portion 10 will be centered at this point.
Referring especially to Figure 1 of the drawings the flattened portion of the legs: 11 and 12 is clearly illustrated, also the pin 13' extending theret-hrough, the leg extending in the same horizontal plane in advance of the flattened portion and terminating in a hollow head member 14-.
As clearly illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings, the head members 14 are clearly shown as being of hollow construct-ion and include undercut walls 15 which are adapt ed to snugly receive and lie flush with correspondingly shaped brush bristle head members 16 therein, the bristles 17 of which eX- tend above and outwardly from the inner faces of the head members lat and in spaced relation with each other. Extending through the sides of the heads 14 and brush bristle head members 16 are holding or securing pins 18 which are received in slots 19 provided in spring tensioned leaf mem bers 20 which are secured to the sides of the brush 1% in order that the said pins may not become disengaged therefrom.
In order to normally space the bristles 17 of each brush there is provided between the pivot pin 18 and handle portions 10 on the leg member 11 an arcuate shaped hollow cylinder 21 which has positioned therein a compression spring 22, and projecting from the inner side of the leg member 12 is a plunger member 23 which is correspondingly shaped and adapted to oscillate within the cylinder 21 and engage the compression spring 22 therein whereby the head members will be normally spaced apart and allow a. comb to be inserted between the bristles 17 of the brushes.
In the use and operation of the present invention, and referring to Figure 5 of the drawing a perspective view is shown of a person holding a comb in the left hand and gripping the handle portions 10 with the right hand. Owing to the compression spring 22 forcing the plunger member out of the cylinder 21 the brush bristles 17 are normally spaced apart in orderto receive a comb therebetween, and when it is desired to clean the comb in order to remove therefrom all extraneous matter, dirt etc., which may have collected between the teeth thereof, the handle members 10 may be compressed by .the right hand and the bristles of the brush 17 will be forced between the teeth of the comb and upon an outward pull on the handles 10, while the same are compressed, the dirt or extraneous matter may be drawn or rempjed from between the teeth of the C0111 The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A comb cleaner of the character described comprising a pair of handle members having their intermediate portions offset and flattened, a pivot pin extending through the flattened portions of the handle members, the outer end portions of the handle members extending in the same horizontal plane therewith and having a pair of hollow head members formed integrally on the outer ends thereof, a pair of brush members secured within the head members and extending outwardly from the inner sides thereof, a substantially arcuate shaped oylindrical member projecting from the inner sides of one of the handle members and carrying a spring therein, and a oorrespondingly shaped plunger member extending from. the inner .side'of the opposite handle JOHN SOLARY.
