Patented Sept. 3%, 1924. v

HOLDER.
Application tiled December 5, 1,923. I serial No. 678,757.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. Soon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grenada, in the county of Grenada and State of? Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its objectthe provision of a holder for safety razor blades so that the latter can be conveniently used for ripping seams, cutting threads and the like, the invention being very simple in construction and can be manufactured and sold at a nominal cost.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
I Figure 1 is a plan view of the holder with theblade positioned therein.
Figure 2 is a view looking at the opposite side of the device. v I
Figure 3 is a view of the holder partly in section with the blade removed.
The holder forming the subject matter of the invention is formed from a single piece of material and includes a body portion 10, the opposed longitudinal edges of which are turned inwardly to provide flanges 11, giving the holder in its entirety a channel like configuration in cross section. The body portion at one corner is cutaway as at 12, so that one corner of the blade 13 will be projected from the holder for use. Manifestly, the blade is adapted to he slipped into the holder'benea th the flanges 11, and moved toward the cutaway portion of the holder, until the end of the blade is received beneath a lug 14 formed on the body adjacent the cutaway portion 12. When the blade is associated with the holder as shown in Fi res 1 and 2, a portion of one end and one side edge of the blade'is presented for use, and it is of course understood that the blade can be reversed or in other words its position changed so that every corner of the blade can be positioned for use in this manner as the occasioii may require. As
above stated, the hoIder is of a size to allow it to be conveniently handled in order to make use of the blade for the purpose of ripping seams and cutting threads and the like. The holder is primarily intended for use in connection with Gillette razor blades, which are provided with a plurality of openings 13, and in order to hold the blade immovably positioned within the holder, the body 10 is formed with a projection or bulged portion 15 of a size to be received by one of the openings of the blade when the latter is moved to its active position within the holder to facilitate this adjustment and movement of the blade, the body portion 10 of the holder is also formed with a longitudinal slot 16 adapted to be traversed by the openings of the blade, so that a pencil or other suitable instrument can be inserted in the slot and through one of the openings 13 to facilitate moving the blade in either direction within the holder. The holder is as above stated formed from a single piece of material and can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do 'not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that suchchanges may be resorted to when desired as fall within the of which is claimed. aving thus described the invention, 1 claim:
A holder for safety razor blades having a plurality of spaced openings. said holder being formed from a single piece of material and of channel like formation in cross section to slidably receive the blade. means for limiting-the movement of the blade in one direction through the holder, said holder having one corner cutaway to allow the corresponding corner of the blade to- PIOJGClZ from the holder for use, means carried by the holder and adapted to be received by one of the openings in the blade for holding the latter fixed relatively to the holder, and said holder having a slot adapted to coincide with the openings in the blade whereby an instrument may be pro'ected through the slot and in either of sai openings to facilitate moving the blade within the holder.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
' JOHN L. SCOTT.
