Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIJAH MOGOY, OF IYPSILANTI, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNGr-TBLES.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 150,876, dated May 12, 1874; application. tiled.
March 31, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH MOODY, of city of Ypsilanti, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a folding ironing-table, as will be hereinafter .more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art `to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a longitudinal section of my ironing-table.
At each end of my table are two legs, A A, connected at their upper ends by means ot' a round or bar, B, and about midway by another round, G. A suitable distance above their lower ends the legs A, at each end, are hinged to a cross-bar, D, and the two crossbars are connected by means of a board, E. G G are braces, hinged by strap-hinges or other suitable means to the rounds O C, and have hooks a a in their lower ends to catch in holes upon the bottom board E to steady the. legs in proper position. rlhe board E may have a metal strip attached to its upper surface, in which the holes for the hooks are made, thus preventing the board from being worn. H represents the ironing-board, provided on its under side, in the center, with a longitudinal strip, b, which enters notches or grooves made in the upper surface of the top rounds or bars B, thus preventing any lateral movement of the board, and keeping it in position while ironing. To the strip b is attached a metallic or other band, el, which passes under the round B at the back end of the table, to allow the board to slide on the same, and yet not be detached from the frame. This band cl may be attached directly to the top or board H without the intervention of the strip b,if so desired.
When in use, the top H is held in place by a hook, h, or other suitable device.
The whole ironing-table can be lfolded in very small compass to be put away when not desired for use.
Having thus fully described my invention,
-what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ironing-board H, provided on its under side with the longitudinal strip b, in combination with the grooved top bur B, for the purpose of preventing a lateral motion of the table, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. i
ELlJAH MCGOY.
itnessesz JOHN G. CRANE, WM. ToMPKINs.
