This invention relates to nursery accessories, and more particularly to a device in the nature of a. commode especially adapted for the training of infants.

One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a structure which will support the infant comfortably and naturally in a reclining position while being trained to avoid the soiling! of napkins.

Another object of theinvention is to provide a collapsible device which may be easily set up when desired to be used and which will occupy but little space when it is desired to store or transport the same.

A further object of the invention is to provide a foldable or collapsible construction having securing straps arranged in such a way as to have the dual function of serving to hold the infant in position when the latter is set up and also to secure the parts against accidental displacement when the device is collapsed.

A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing my invention in its set up position ready for use, and

A fundamental purpose of the present invention is to provide a device to assist in training young infants not yet able to sit upright to acquire proper habits, and to that end I provide a reclining support or stand including a seat and an inclined back for permitting the infant to rest comfortably awhile positioned on a cushioned seat ring for the intended. purpose. .The .construction of the device is; such that thebac'k may be foldedover onto the'seat without injuring the cushion seat and the seat portion and back are supported by end members in such away that when it is-desired to collapsethe structure the end members may be respectively folded againstythe seat and the back. Securing straps-are provided' for retaining the infant against movement while positioned on the support and these straps also serve to retainthe foldable parts against movement when collapsed. y

In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the device consists of. the support or bed -A comprising the sections 1 and 2 carried by a frame structure including opposed U- shaped end sections 5 and 6 preferably metal rods connected together through the medium of side frame members or couplings .77 preferably formed of sheet metal. The

endsof the frame section 5 are pivoted to the side members 7 as at 88, and the ends of the frame member 6 are pivoted to the side members 7 as at 9 9, the pivots 8 and 9 being transversely disposed so as to permit the end section's being folded one/on the other. The support A carried upon the frames 5 and 6 is preferably formed from a single piece of canvass or the like, and provides the seat portion 1 and the back section 2. As shown the flexible support A may be formed with marginal hems 121212 and 1313-13 for respectively receiving the rods forming the end frame sections 5 and 6.

That portion of the fabric support which forms the seat- 1 is formed with an opening 14 and located around the opening and secured to the fabric is a circular air cushion 15. j

The distance between the pivots 8 and 9 is substantially equal to the height of the air cushion 15 so that when the back 2 is folded over the seat 1, the air cushion will not be injured thereby.

In order to support the seat and baclr above the floor line, I have provided supporting legs 18 and 19. Each leg is preferably formed of a metal rod bent into U- shape and having pivotal connections at its ends with the respective end frame sections 5 and 6 for permitting said legs to be swung into the planes of the respective end sections when it is desired to collapse the article. In order to retain the legs against movement and to support the structure, I have provided suitable braces 20 and 2121, the braces 20 cooperating with the legs 18 and the end of frame section 5, and the braces 21' cooperating with the legs 19 and with the end frame section 6. Each of these braces is of the 2-part adjustable type, the parts of each brace being held by a bolt 22 and a cooperating winged nut 23. When the commodeis set up for use, the back 2 is arranged atan inclination to the plane of .the seat and is held in such relation through the medium of the braces 20 and 21 as shown.

Secured to the frame member 5 is one or more straps 24 and one or more cooperating buckles 25, the buckle and the strap being respectively connected to the frame at points opposite the opening 14.

In using the device the structure is first set up as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings and the infant placed on the air cushion so that the infants back is supported by the inclined back of the structure. The strap 24 may them be placed over the infant and buckled in place. By reason of the air cushion and the inclined back the infant is afforded the greatest ease possible.

Without further description it is thought that the many features and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent and it will of course be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a frame structure including opposed end sections, intermediate side sections interposed between the end sections and having pivotal connections with both end sections, a seat carried by one of said end sections and formed with an opening, a back carried by the other end section, said end sections being adapted to be folded one on the other, and a circular air cushion supported on said seat and surrounding the opening thereof, the distance between the pivots on the intermediate side sections being substantially equal to the height of the air cushion.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a frame structure including opposed end sections, intermediate side sections interposed between the end sections and having pivotal connections with both end sections, a seat carried by one of said end sections and formed with an opening, a back carried by the other end section, said end sections be'ng adapted to be folded one on the other, a circular air cushion supported on said seat and surrounding the opening thereof, the distance between the pivots on the intermediate side sections being substantially equal to the height of the air cush'on, and means cooperating with the intermediate side sections and the end sections to retain said sections against downward movement when in their normal positions.
