Description

May 20, 1924. 1
J. M. WALTERS "494653 PROTECTOR Filed July 26 1922 Patented May 20, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. WALTERS, 0F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
PROTECTOR.
Application filed July 26,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. WALTERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Protector, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to merchandise protectors particularly designed for use by window dressers.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and cheap device of this character which may be quickly slipped on over the shoes and retained in position without requiring the use of laces or like tedious time consuming fastening means, and which will effectively protect fine. materials, floor coverings and the like from contact with the shoes.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing'from the-spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation partly in. perspective, of the device constituting this invention with parts broken .out to show the interior construction, the protector having the opening through which the foot is inserted arranged in stretched open position ready for use.
Fig. 2* is a similar view showing the openin% in contracted osition, and
ig. 3 is a detai sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In the embodiment illustrated, the device constitutin this invention is preferably constructed o fleece lined jersey cloth which while afiording ample thickness to protect adjacent objects from contact with the shoe over which the device is worn, yet has sufficient yieldability to permit its ready application and removal, but other suitable material may be used, if desired.
This protector 1 may be made in the form 1922. Serial No. 577,654.
of a slumber sock, the foot portion 2 of which is designed to encase the wearers shoe and which has an opening or mouth 3 for the insertion of the foot, said opening being preferably provided with a casing 4 extending peripherally therearound and in which is located an elastic tape 5, the ends of which are united in a manner similar to a round garter, and which is of a size suffi cient to snugly fit the ankle of the wearer when in use.
This protector 1 as shown has reinforci'ilg members 6 and 7 located on the inner face thereof at the heel and toe respectively to prevent the sole and heel of the shoe from puncturing the fabric.
Snap fasteners 8'are arranged at the mouth of the rotector, the cooperating members of whic are disposed at opposite sides of said mouth as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2 and are designed for use when the rotector is worn by persons having small eet. The cooperating members of-the fasteners are connected after the protector is applied and in connection with the elastic tape 5 holds said protector securely in position on the foot so that the user may walk around without danger of the device working oil as would occur with the ordinary sock used without having the fasteners and tape.
The size of the mouth 3 of the protector is much larger than that of an ordinary stockin or sock to provide for the insertion optldie oot of the wearer with the shoe app ie From the above description it will he ob vious that these protectors may be quickly slipped on or off over the wearers ordinary shoes so that little time is consumed in making the change and yet when applied they will completely encompass the portion of the foot below the ankle so that all possibility of contact of the shoes with adjacent objectsis prevented.
