Description

March 25 19 24;
. HARPER BOX FOR TABLETSQF. S OAP AND OTHER ARTICLES Filed A ri'l 21 1922 Patented Mar- 9 esa Application filed April 21, 1922. Serial No. 555,834.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR HARPER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 14:0 Grays Inn Road, London, W. C. 1, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Tablets of Soap and Other Articles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to boxes or containers for holding such articles as soap, sandwiches or other food, or tooth powder. The invention is also applicable to certain vessels used as cooking utensils, such as fish kettles. The object of the present invention is to provide a box for containing articles and to combine with the box a device whereby the articles will be withdrawn or partially withdrawn from the box or container by the act of opening the lid of the box.
According to the present invention, we combine with a box having a lid movably associated therewith, a shelf or sup-port normally disposed Within the box, but so connected with the lidthat the act of opening the lid withdraws or partially withdraws the shelf or support so as to project the articles from the box.
In carrying out my invention as applied to soap boxes or fish kettles, the movable shelf or support may be perforated, so as to act as a drainer. When the box is to be used for other articles, the movable shelf or support need not be perforated.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing my invention applied to a soap box and showing the box in an open position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the box closed.
In the construction illustrated, the body 03 of the box may be made from sheet metal and may be of any suitable shape. Hinged to the exterior of one of the sides of this body is a lid e. This lid may be arranged to close down on to a peripheral enlarge ment or shoulder of the box d in the wellknown manner, and any suitable form of clasp or fastening may be provided for retainin the lid in a closed position.
Wit in the box and parallel to the base is arranged a perforated shelf or support a having a raised edge as shown.
The edge of the support a may be provided with two pairs of upwardly extending lugs, to one pair of which are pivoted a pair of links 0 and to the other pair of which are pivoted a pair of links 6.
The other ends of the links a are pivoted to the sides of the body of the boxcZ, whilst the other ends of the links I) are pivoted to the lid, as shown.
In use, the soap or other articles or material is placed upon the shelf or support a which acts as a drainer. The shelf or support a moves when the lid is moved. If the lid is closed the support a moves down almost tothe base of the box. If the lid is opened the shelf a moves outwardly from the box maintaining a parallel position in relation to the base of the box d.
What I claim then is 1. A box for tablets of soap and the like comprising in combination a sheet metal body; a sheet metal lid member hinged to said body; a movable shelf having a perforated base member, a raised edge on said base member, two pairs of upwardly extending lugs on the said raised edge, one pair at each side of the shelf; a pair of links, each pivotally connected at one end directly to the box and at their opposite end di rectly to the front lug of each pair on the shelf;and a pair of links, each pivotally connected at one end directly .to the lid and at their opposite end directly to the rear lug of each pair on the shelf.
2. A box for tablets of soap and the like comprising in combination'a sheet metal body; a sheet metal lid member hinged to said body; a movable shelf having a perforated base member, a raised edge on said base member, two pairs of upwardly extending lugs on the said raised edge, one pair at each side of the shelf; a pair of bent links, each p-ivotally connected at one end directly to the inner surface of the box adjacent the back thereof and at their opposite end directly to the outer side of the front lug of each pair on the shelf; and a pair of bent links, each pivotally connected at one end directly to the inner surface of the lid and at their opposite end directly to the outer side of the rear lug of each pair on the shelf.
3. A box for tablets of soap and the like comprising in combination a sheet metal body having a peripheral enlargement adjacent the upper edge of the body; a lid hinged to the body at one side of the enlargement whereby the enlargement serves as a stop rear part of the shelf andat their opposite to limit the opening and closing movements end directly to the lid. ofthe'lid; a movilble shelf; :1 p511 Oflinks ln 'witness vi hereoff Ia'fii'ic; my signature. each pivoted at one end directly to" the 5 forward part of the shelf and at their op- Witnesses:
posite end directly to the box, and a. pair of CHARLES...;S.- PARSONS, links each pivoted at one end directly to the A. BI T'om'kins.
ARTHUR HARPER.
