Patented Feb. 1o, 1374;
No.l47406.
m n n l UNITED STATES PATENT CEFIGE.
EDMUND B. JUOKET, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOSE-COUPLINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.147,406, dated February 10, 1874; application filed January 15, 1874.
To all whom lt may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND B. JUoKET, of
Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new Improvement in HoseOouplings; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to he a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part ot this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a side view, and in Fig. 2 a central section.
This invention relates to an improvement in the method of securing the hose to the coupling, and particularly to the coupling for which Letters Patent of the United States were granted to me September 9,1862. In that invention, the tapered cut clamping-ring was threaded up the outside, and over this an internally-threaded collar was placed, contracting the ring by being screwed down onto it. Many times it is difficult to hold the ring from turningwhile screwing down the collar; again, the collar is constantly exposed and liable to injurydiiculties overcome by the present improvement, which consists in forming the coupling with a sleeve projecting over the hose-neck and threaded upon its inside, and within this sleeve the cut clamping-ring is set, and over this the collar, threaded upon its outside, to run into the sleeve to contract the clampingrin g upon the hose.
A is the male part of the coupling, the female part corresponding in the usual manner, the neck B extending from the part A to receive the end of the hose O. From the part` A a projecting sleeve, D, extends back over the neck B, leaving an annular space between the neck and sleeve. rIhe sleeve is threaded upon the inside to receive the collar E, which is correspondingly threaded on its outside, and made of little larger internal diameter at its inner end, or contracting in diameter from the inner end out. Inside this collar the cut ring F is placed over the hose, the ring F made conical upon its outside to correspond to the interior of the collar E. The hose is iirst- EDMUND B. JUCKIET.
