SANITARY. GARBAGE can";
Application filed. December 12. 1921. semi No. 521,886.
To all who-m it may concern:
' Be it known that I, Onnsrn GALL'UOOI, a
citizen of'the United States, residing at gases arising from the material and in being provided with means for flushing out the inside.
An important and more specific object is the provision of a, device of this character provided at diiferent points with flushing means and also provided at its lower portions with a power driven fan whereby gases or obnoxious odors may be carried away. I
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in construction and installation, highly efiicient in use, durable in service and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through my complete device and Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings I have shown a waste pipe which may lead to a septic tank or toany suitable place for the storage and accumulation or carrying off of wastematerial of all kinds. The outlet end of the pipe is not shown but it is to be understood that the upper end thereof communicates with the atmosphere and must naturally extend above the roof of the building with which it is associated. The numeral 11 designates a receptacle which may be of any desired size and shape and which may be constructed of any suitable material such as galvanized iron or sheet metal which is suitably enameled. As shown the receptacle 11 is of hopper shape and is provided with a hinged cover 12 which may be provided with any preferred catch means andwith asuitable handle. At I the bottom of the receptacle 11 is formed a constricted passage portion 13 which is connected with a substantially tisliape pipe l i which is in turn connected with a "l" 15 interposed in the waste pipe.
The numerals 16 and 17 designates pipes which lead respectively to the receptacle 11 v and into the passage member 13, and these pipes are provided with suitable cocks or faucets 18 and 19 respectively whereby water may be admitted either to the receptacle 11 or to the passage member 13 for the purpose of flushing out the device.
Formed or otherwise secured within the passage member 13 is a casing 20 within which is mounted a suction fan 21 which is driven by a suitable electric motor 22 located exteriorly ofthe device and driven from any suitable source of current.
In the use of the device it will be seen that the waste materialto be disposed of is simply dumped into the receptacle 11 from which it will naturally pass into the constricted portion 13' and to the pipe 1d into the waste pipe 10 where it will be disposed of in the usual manner. The cover 12 will of course operate to prevent the escape of the obnoxious gases or odors from the receptacle so it is to'be seen that in case any odors do tend to emanate from the device the fan 21 may be placed in operation for sucking such obnoxious gases or odors into the pipe 10. Whenever it is found necessary the cooks 18 and 19 may be opened for permitting water to flow through the receptacle 11 and also into the passage member 13 for the purpose of flushing out and thoroughly cleansing the entire interior.
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simply constructed and consequently easily installed sanitary receptacle for garbage or other waste matter which will be very advantageous in preventing the accumulation and escape of disagreeable odors and which will therefore be very sanitary and tend to reduce the danger of contamination. @wing to the simplicity of the construction andth e fewness of the parts it is apparent that there is nothing to get out of order and that the device should consequently have a long life and satisfactorily performall the functions for which it is intendedQ While I have shown and described the 10 bination With a Waste pipe, of a receptacle having a constricted lower )ortion a iae member connecting said lower portion with said Waste pipe, a cover for said receptacle and water inlet pipes leading respectively into the receptacle and into said constricted lower portions thereof and provided with cut-oil" cocks, a fan casing located Within said constricted lower portion, and a suction power driven fan located Within said casing.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ORESTE GALLUCCI.
