JAMES D. FREEMAN, OF ABBEVILLE, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JAMES GILLESPIE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ICE-SHAVING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,553., dated August 5, 1873 application filed June 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, JAMES l). FREEMAN, of Abbeville, in the county of Henry and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ice-Shaving Machine, of which the following is a speciication:
Figure l is a vertical" section of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same, the holding-lever and plate being turned back.
.Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved machine for attachment to the counter in soda-water and other saloons for shaving the ice, and which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and rapid in operation.
The invention consists in the combination of the hopper, the base-plate, the knifecylin der, the crank, the holding-plate, the lever, the adjusting-plate, and the clamp with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the hopper to receive the ice,
the side parts of which descend below the Abottom of the hopper and are attached to the side edges of the base-plate B, which is designed to rest upon and be secured to the counter. The forward parts of the downupon it, and which is attached to the lever F.
The lever F passes through slots in the front and rear sides of the hopper A, and its forward end is pivoted to a plate, G, which slides up and down in a groove formed by guidecleats attached to the forward side of said hopper. The plate G is slotted to receive the bolt H attached to the hopper A, and which is provided with a hand-nut, I, so that by loosening the said hand-nut the plate Gr may be raised and lowered to adjust the position of the lever F and plate E, according to the size of the piece of ice to be operated upon. The rear end of the lever F projects so that the operator can grasp it in one hand to hold the ice down with the requisite pressure while he operates the crankJ with the other hand to shave the ice.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to-secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the hoppers A, baseplate B, knife-cylinder C D, crank J, holdingplate E, lever F, adj usting-plate G, and clamp H I with each other, substantially as herein shown and described.
