Description
UNITEDQSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN-YA. KICK, or cnrcneo', ILLINOIS.
. rnocnss or UITITIN'G w'mxnn PAPER.
No Drawing.
To all wJzom it concern: Be it known that I, JOHN A. KICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chi cago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Imrovements in Processes of Uniting Waxed aper, of'which the following is a specification.
unitlng paper that has previously been subjected to treatment with Wax, whether impregnated or coated. p
It may be remarked that paper so treated can not be securely united by the simple application of an adhesive, while a bond formed by melting and congealing the wax is no stronger than the Wax used in coating the paper, even though a hard wax be in; terposed. 1
Therefore, my invention has for its object to. so securely unite waxed paper that the bond will be as strong as the paper.
In my process I apply a coat of adhesive to he portions of the Waxed paper to be united and bring said portions mto contact.
' Then I app-1y sufiicient heat to said portions to melt the wax and sufiicient pressure to hold said portions securely together until the adhesive has, set and preferably retaining a pressure without heat until the wax has congealed.
The exact" composition of the adhesive is of no great consequence and in this connection I wish it understood that I use the word adhesive in its broadest sense, to indicate any material-that may be practicably employed to unite paper. owever, from'a Specification of Letters Patent.
My invention relates to the process of- Patented Mar. '7, 1922.
Application filed January 10, 1921. Serial No. 436,325.
- standpoint of cost and to expedite the process I prefer to use a quick drying, viscid adhesive containing as small a percentage of 40 moisture as is practicable. I
I have found that an-adhesive made by dissolving dextrine in water and adding some element such asborax in a sufficient quantity to secure the desired viscosity,
gives satisfactory results at small expense.
I make no claim for the application of adhesive or heat, separatel one without the other, but rather the app ication of both adhesive and heat as previously set forth.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The process of uniting waxed pa er which consists of applying a coating 0 a viscid adhesive tothe portions to be united, 55 placing said coated surfaces into contact and thereafter applying sufli-cient heat to said portions to melt the wax. and sufiicient pressure to hold said portions securely in con- JOHN A. KICK.
