To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, VAL F. FRANCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety- Razors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. f

This invention relates to razors and has for its primary object the provision of a device of the character aforesaid which may be carried in the pocket in substantially the same manner as a fountain pen and pencil and which presents a like appearance, said razor embodying a brush and soap, all being inclosed in the same case.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.

While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the same yto meet different conditions and requirements, various lchanges in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of t-he invention. i

he article comprises essentially three separate and distinct sections designated as follows: a razor section, a brush section and a soap section. These several sections are preferably connected by means of slip joints. However, it is to be understood that they may beconnected in any manner. The

several sections, when assembled, form a case 1n conjunction with two caps, the latter closing the outer or extreme Sections. The end caps are designated by the numerals 1- and 2, respectively. The numeral 1 indicates the cap for closing the razor section, whereas the numeral 2 designates the cap for closing the outer end of the soap section. A clip 3 is fitted to the cap l to engageover a side of the pocket and retain the article in position therein.

The razor section comprises a tubular member 4 provided at one end with a spaced elements between which the shank of the razor guard is pivoted. The member 4 has an annular enlargement 6 intermediate its ends to form in effect a stop and a portion of the case.

The support for the razor blade 7 comprises a guard 8 toothed along opposite longitudinal edges and having a yshank 9 at one end by means of which it is pivotally connected to the member 4. The teeth 10, along opposite edges of the guard, constitute extensions of ribs formed along the inner side of the guard 8. Tits 11 are provided upon the inner side of the guard 8 near opposite ends thereof and are adapted to enter openings 12 of the blade 7 and retain the latter in proper position. A clamp bar 13 is pivotally connected to the outer end of the guard 8 and is provided at its j free end with a lug 14 adapted to enter an opening 15 at the inner end of the guard 8 and retain the clamp 13 in closed position. Openings 16 are formed inthe clamp 13 in position to receive the outer ends of the tits 11, thereby preventing the latter from interfering with the firm gripping of the razor blade 7. The blade 7 has a double cutting edge and the construction is such that either one of the edges may be brought into operative position.

The brush section comprises a tubular member 17 adapted to have one end engage the member 4 and provided at its opposite end with a brush 18 for lathering the face preliminary to shaving. The brush carrying end of the member 17 is slightly reduced to receive the contigous end of the soap section- The soap lsection comprises a tubular member 19 provided at one end with a stick of soap 20 and adapted to have its opposite end engage the member 17. The outer end of the member 19 is slightly reduced to receive the cap 2, the latter inclosing the stick of soap 20.

The enlarged portions of the several sections correspond in diameter to the diameter of the caps 1 and 2 so that when the severalv parts are assembled, as indicated in Figs. l and 4, the device presents the appearance of an ordinary fountain pen or pocket pencil and like such is adapted to be carried in the pocket, being retained therein against casual displacement by means of the clip 3. It is observed that the article embodies, in a single organized structure, all the essentials for shaving, such as a razor, a brush and soap, each being readily accessible and adapted for independent use. It is observed that the cap 1 may be engaged with either end of the member 4t and, when fitted to the end of such member opposite that provided with the razor blade, it constitutes a handle for manipulating the razor when in active operation. The shank 9 of the guard 8 is of such relative length as to be engaged by the thumb and first and second fingers of the hand in a manner well understood when using a razor.

What is claimed is:

1. In an article of the character specified, a member having spaced elements at one end and an enlargement intermediate its ends, a

razor element pivoted between the spaced elements of said member, and a cap adapted to be fitted to either end of said member and engage the enlargement thereof and in one position inclosing the razor element and in the other position constituting a handle therefor.

2. A device of the character specified comprising a. member, a razor element at one end of said member, a brush carrying mem ber detachably fitted to the opposite end of the member, and a cap adapted to be fitted 1go the outer end of either one of the memers.

3. An article of the character specified comprising a razor section embodying a member having a razor element pivotally connected thereto, a brush section detachably engaging the razor section, a soap section detachably engaging the brush section and inclosing the brush, and' caps detachably engaging the razor and soap sections and forming with the several sections a uniform case inclosing the arts.
