HAIR AN D SCALP REMEDY.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES G. ROMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, New Castle county, and State of Delaware, have invented and discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Hair and Scalp Remedies, of whichthe following is a specification.
My said invention consists in a compound for use in the treatment of the scalp and hair for the purpose of removing dandruff, preventing the hair from falling out, and promoting the growth of hair where the conditions make it possible.
Said compound consists of the following ingredients: gal. vinegar (preferably wine), 5 oz. kerosene oil, 2 oz. bay leaves, dry, 2 oz. carbolic soap, oz. alum (preferably powdered), 2 oz. tobacco (preferably Turkish-powdered), -3 oz. salt (table or rock), 3 oz. castor oil, 1 oz. rhubarb (ground), 10 drops oil of bergamot.
These ingredients except the oil of bergamot, are mixed and boiled preferably for an hour or longer, and the product then strained. The oil of bergamot is added is otherwise prepared and the castor oil may also be added after boiling.
The liquid is used by rubbing into the scalp, or it may be combined with a wax and formed into an ointment or salve and used in said form. I
Specification of Letters Patent.
While I have stated the particular quality of the ingredients preferred and the proportions which I have used in making the compound, it will be understood 'of'course that the proportions may be somewhat varied and that Where the ingredients of the quality specified cannot be obtained, a corresponding ingredient may be substituted Without departing from my invention. For example, while I prefer wine vinegar to obtain the nicest quality of the preparation, yet other kinds may be used. The carbolic soap may be of any suitable quality. The Turkish tobacco is preferred but other tobaccos may be used if the Turkish tobacco is not available.
Having thus fully described my saidinvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: 3
