Jol-1N- soiv, a citizen oi" the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county otDougla-s, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Pasteboard Bassinets and Dolls, of which the ollowing is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the ligures of reference marked thereon.

rlhe invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined pasteboard bassinet and doll, and more particularly to a bassinet having a hood at one end thereof.

An object of the invention is to provide as an article of manufacture a cardboard cut to shape and decorated to represent a covered bassinet, which cardboard is cut through in a continuous line along the upper edge of the robe in the bassinet, a portion ot' the upper edge of the bassinet and a portion of the front edge ot the hood or cover so that a cardboard doll may be inserted in said slot formed by the cutting of the cardboard bassinet, whereby a portion of the body of the doll is concealed by the robe and the Jfront wall of the bassinet and a portion of the head of the doll is concealed by the hood or cover. thus giving the appearance of a doll within the bassinet, said line of cutting beinea wholly within the limits of the cardboard bassinet whereby the spring ot the cardboard will clamp and hold the dell in place.

In carrying out the invention, a piece ot' comparatively still' cardboard is cut to shape and decorated to represent a bassinct having a hood or Icover at one end thereof. The bassinet is provided with the basket portion 1 having wheels .2-2 and a hood or cover 3. l/Vithin the bassinet is a robe 4f.. Said bassinet is provided with decorations 5 indicating; a woven-in ribbon passing through the bassinet. T he hood is also provided with suitable ribbon decorations, indicated at 6.

rlhe cardboard is cut along the line o o, which is the upper line ot' the robe within the bassinet. lt is noted that this line curves upwardly,l as indicated at o, thus forming a shoulder in the line. The upper edge of the bassinet is cut along the line a to c, while the hood or cover is cut along the line from c to d. This line a to o and c to (Z is a continuous line, and said line lies wholly within the limits of the cardboard forming the bassinet. Said line of cutting extends from the point c toward the front of the hood or cover and toward the front of the bassinet, thus forming a tongue portion which may be sprung backwardly to receive the cardboard doll, and the spring ot the cardboard will cause said projecting portion to clamp and hold the doll, as will be hereinafter more fully disclosed.

The cardboard doll consists in a body portion 7 having legs 8, which are indicated as in a drawn-up position, arms 9, and a head 10. The cardboard doll is adapted 'to be inserted in the slot Jformed by the cutting of the cardboard forming the bassinet with the body portion, or the greater portion thereof, hidden by the robe in the front wall of the bassinet, as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings. A portion ot' the head is also hidden by the front part of the hood or cover so that, when the doll is in place, it will be lirmly clamped between the cut portions ot the cardboard forming the bassinet and will have the appearance of a doll being within the bassinet. At the same time, the doll may be removed. from the bassinet and placed as indicated in Fig. 2, with the arms of the doll resting on the upper edge o'f the slot between a and b and in front of the shoulder at b and with the body portion bearing against the edge of the hood along the line c-rZ and adjacent the point c. This, together with the spring of the cardboard clamping the cardboard doll will hold the doll frmlv in this upright position.

From the above description, it will be apparent that I have provided a combined cardboard bassinet and doll wherein the doll may be placed relative to the cut parts of the bassinet so as to have the appearance of being within the bassinet, or may be placed in sitting position in the bassinet and irmly held in such position.

lt is understood, of course, that the usual removable dresses having tabs Ator holding the same on the body portion of the doll may be provided. At the back of the cardboard forming the bassinet is a pocket 11 which is formed by a sheet of paper 12 cemented at 13 and along its side edges to the cardboard, leaving the upper edge thereof free. As shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the body portion of the doll which is in rear of the robe and the side wall of the bassinet is within this pocket. This pocket may also be used to store the diierent dresses which are to be used in connection with the cardboard doll, l

It is obvious that minor changes in the shaping of the parts andthe line of cutting of the cardboard of the b/assinet may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is As an article of manufacture, a combined cardboard bassinet and doll comprising, a

cardboard cut to shape and decorated to represent a hood covered bassinet and a robe in the bassinet, said cardboard being cut through in a continuous line along the upper edge of the robe in the bassinet, a portion of the upper edge of the bassinet and a portion of the Jfront edge of the hood, and adapted to receive in the slot formed by the cutting of said cardboard a cardboard doll shaped so that a portion of the body thereotis hidden by the robe and the front wall of the bassinet and a portion of the head may be hidden by the hood, thereby giving the appearance of a doll within the bassinet, said line of cutting lying Wholly within the limits of the cardboard forming the bassinet so that the cardboard doll will be clamped and held in place by the spring of the cardboard forming the bassinet.
