CHRISTMAS-TREE DECORATION.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, MARIE N. ARMSTRONG, a citizen of the United Spokane, in the county State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Christmas-Tree Decorations, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in tree ornaments and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may receive a lighting medium.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which will hold the light so the same is thoroughly inclosed, thus avoiding all danger of setting the tree on lire.

Another object of the invention is to provide simple and eilicient means for placing the device or removing it of Spokane and therefrom.

Another object of the invention is toi provide a construction which will disclose readily to the observer the fact that candle is burning low and needs replenishin 1iglnother object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described and specically pointed out inthe appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in whic Figure 1 is a view of the invention, with parts broken away.

In these figures, the upper and lower portions 1 and 2 of the device are each formed of metal of conical shape, provided with perforations 3 and a screw threaded flange 4L at its edge adapted to engage with a screw threaded flange 5 on the bod part or globe G. This body part is pre erably made of glass or other trans- Copies States, residing at` the parent material and is so formed that when combined with the end portions an ornament of ellipsoidal shape is formed. The lower portion 2 is provided with a candle holder 7 soldered to its bottom and the end portion 3 has a chain 8 secured thereto for attachment to the tree.

rIhe o'lobe is readily attached or detached from the end portions by means of the screw threaded flanges so that the candle may be easily placed in the device and lighted. The globe can be made of glass of any color or a mixture of colors, and as the liame is fully covered there is no danger of setting the tree on Ere.

It will be observed that the candle holder 7 is at the apex of the lower portion 2, and the upper end of the holder stands on a line considerably below a large number of the perforations in this portion. When the candle is first inserted it will be substan tially as long as shown in the drawings. As it burns down, eventually its light will show through some of the perforations in the lower portion, rather than shinin through the globe 6, and thus warning will be given that the device needs a new candle.

It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall `within the scope of the appended claim.

I claim as my invention:

A Christmas tree ornament comprising upper and lower hollow end portions of metal, substantially conoidal, perforated throu hout, and having threaded flanges at their Iarger ends; supporting means at the apex of the upper portion, a candle holder within the a eX of the lower portion and of less depth tlian this portion so that most of the perforations thereof are above said holder, and a globe constituting the intermediate portion and having threaded flanges at top and bottom to removably engage those on the end portions.
