rrnn s'rArEs PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERrF. BLACK, or SANDUSKY, MICHIGAN.
COW-TAIL HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT F. BLACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Sanilac and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cow-Tail Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a cow tail holder and has for its primary object the provision of a device of this character adapted to prevent the cow from switching a person in the face with its tail when milking and which will obviate the danger of dirt and foreign matter being thrown in the milk by the cows tail.
Another object of this invention is to provide a spring clamp adapted to fit either of the rear legs of a cow and having means connected thereto for holding the cows tail.
A. further object of this invention is to provide a spring clasp adapted to grip a cows tail and is pivoted to the spring clamp, whereby a cows tail is substantially held against movement or switching action.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a cow tail holder of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
WVith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my in vention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which t Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a cow illustrating my invention applied thereto,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a cow tail holder constructed in accordance with my invention with one leg of the cow shown in section, and
Fig. 3 is a detail elevation of means for securing the clasp.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety a spring clamp adapted to fit about either of the rear Specification of Letters Patent.

legs of a cow 2' and is constructed from a single length of wire. The wire is first bent intermediate its ends to form a spring 2, the ends of which are curvedto form gripping arms 3. One of the gripping arms 3 underlies the other gripping arm and has its end bent to form a hook 4 for the purpose of preventing the gripping arm 3 from accidentally spreading. The other gripping arm 1s bent to form a loop or eye 5 for connectlon with a spring clasp 6. The spring clasp 1s constructed from a continuous length of wire and is coiled to form a spring 7 the ends of which extend parallel with each other to form gripping arms 8 and 9. The gripping arm 8 is bent at right angles and rearwardly upon itself to form a handle 10 and the free end of said arm 8 is bent to form a hook 11 for engagement with the gripping arm 9. The gripping arm 9 is also bent at right angles and rearwardly upon itself to form a handle 12 and has its free end bent to form a hook 13 for engagement with the eye or loop 5 to pivotally secure the spring clasp 6 to the spring clamp 1.
In operation, the spring clamp 1 is placed about either of the rear legs of the cow and the spring clasp 6 is placed upon the cows tail so thatthe gripping arms 8 and 9 will tightly engage same, thereby substantially holding the cows tail against movement, obviating the danger of the cow switching a person in the face while milking, also obviating the danger of the cow throwing foreigln matter or dirt within the milk by its ta1 While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A cow tail holder comprising a leg clamp, and a tail clasp consisting of a pair of' gripping arms of relatively different lengths, the longer arm extending forwardly beyond the shorter arm and pivoted at its forward end to said clamp, a hook carried by the forward end of the shorter arm for detachable engagement with the longer arm, and a laterally projecting handle carried by each arm.
2. A cow tail holder comprising a leg clamp provided at its rear end with a loop adapted to be located rearwardly beyond the cows leg when the clamp is in applied position, and a tail clasp consisting of a pair of straight gripping arms of relatively different lengths, a spring connecting the rear ends of said arms, the longer arm extending forwardly beyond the forward end of the I shorter arm and provided at its forward end with a loop engaging the loop of the leg clamp, a hook carried by the forward end In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature 7 presence of two Witnesses.
