JOHN A. CHILSTROIVI, OF RED WING, MINNESOTA.
GARMENT-DISPLAY HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1918.
Application filed February 12, 1918. Serial No. 216,722.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. CHILsrRoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Red Wing, in the county of Groodhue and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Garment-Display Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to garment hangers and the object is to provide a neat and efficient device especially suitable for displaying womens garments in stores. The hanger is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front view of the hanger. Fig. 2 is a side view of the hanger as seen from the left in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 1 designates a garment supporting member having secured at its middle an upwardly extending hook 2, which is made preferably from sheet metal, and which has its lower part bifurcated and formed into two bearings 3 and 4. In each end of the hanger 1 is secured an eyelet or hearing 5. In said bearings 3, 4; and 5 is journaled a rod of a bail shaped member 7. Out from the plate 2 I stamp a horizontal perforated extension 8 in which slides a rod 9 whose upper end is formed into a hook 10. The lower end of the rod is formed into a hook 11 which pivotally engages one end of a short lever 12. The other end of said lever is firmly secured to the pivot rod 6 of the bail 7 If so preferred the lever 12 may be arranged opposite from the bail and the rod 910 pushed instead of pulled.
The hanger is ordinarily used like any other hanger; that is, the garment is placed over the arms of the member 1 and the hanger is hung up by the hook 2, the bail 7 hanging in a vertical position as shown in the drawing. But when a salesman is to display a garment he places the hook 2 of the hanger (on which the garment is hung) upon one finger of either hand; then, with another finger of the same hand he operates the hook 10 of the rod 9 until the lever 12 and hail 7 reach the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2. The swinging to an inclined position of the bail 7 separates the part 13 of the garment away from the part 14 giving the garment the appearance of hanging on a person. After the garment has thus been displayed the hook 10 is released which drops the bail 7 and the device and the garment may again be hung away, if so desired, taking up no more room than if hung on any other ordinary garment hanger.
What I claim is:
l. A garment display hanger comprising a body member adapted to be inserted into the shoulder and collar portion of a garment and having upon its middle portion a suspending book, a shaft journaled to said body member near the ends thereof, and a bust forming bail secured with its ends to the ends of said shaft, a rocker arm fixed near the middle of the shaft, an operating rod extending from the rocker arm and forming a finger piece near the supporting hook, and means on the body member for guiding and holding the operating rod in said position.
2. The structure specified in claim 1, and journal bearings secured to the body member and supporting the middle portion of the shaft.
3. The structure specified in claim 1, said supportin hook having its body extended downwarc ly and formed with two bearings for the middle portion of the shaft, one hearing at each side of the rocker arm, and above said bearings with the guide for the operating rod.
4. The structure specified in claim 1 and two bearings fixed on the body member and embracing'the shaft, one near each side of the rocker arm.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN A. GHILSTROM.
