Description
rnmuivn CAILLETEAU, or ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
, SAFETY-Razon.
Specification o'f Letters Patent.
Application filed October v3, 1918. l Serial No. 256,770.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FERNAND CAILLETEAU, a citizen of Atlanta,in the countyof Fulton and State of Georgia, have-invented certainnew'and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors', and I do hereby declarey the following t0 be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the 4art to which itl appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the ac-I drawmgs, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification;
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in safety razors, and the object in View is to produce a razor so constructed as to permit ofl adjustment of the blades for the purpose of executing a close or otherwise shave. f j
The invention consists of various details of construction, combination and arrangements of parts fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically deined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is a side'elevationof the razor.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view longitudinally through the same, and
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates a handle having a, concaved socket portion B at one end, and ajcentral threaded aperture C' formed in the' bottom of the socket. An adjustable plate Dhas serrations E along its forward edge and said plate is provided with a shank portion F slotted as at H through a curved portion of the plate, The razor blade is ldesignated by letterhI and is provided with an aperture I to receive lugs I? projecting from the holder N. A plate O is provided with plintle ends O pivotally mounted in apertures in the flanges N of the holder N, and has a curved ange O3 upon its rear edge, which is adapted to have frictional contact with a curvedv portion N2 of the holder N t0 cause the plate -O to clndp and hold the'blade against the serra late.
comp anying Projecting from theyholder is a stem R the United States, residing at.
which will be hereinafter and which slot extendshaving a threaded portion R. Said stem passes through a slot in the curved portion of the plate and the shank portionthereof andengages the threaded opening formed in the end of the handle. It will be noted upon reference t0 the drawings, that the Patented Dec. 24,1918.
shank portion of the plate which engages said concaved socket at the end of the handle is spherical shaped, having a bearin against the bottom of the socket, and it wi l also be noted that the slot Iin the shank portion of the plate is contracted near its lower end forming fulcrum points T at points opposite and against which s aid stem is adapted to have pivotal contact in the a'djustment of the plate at different angles.
In operation, when it is desired to adjust the relative positions of the plate having serrations at the ends thereof and the blade, the handle is turned in one direction to loosen the threaded stem therewith and which will permit the plate to tilt, and when the serrations come to the proper position relative to the cutting edge of the blade, the handle vmay be turned to the right, for the purpose of drawing t'he spherical-shaped end of the sh'ank portion of theplate frictionally against the socket end of the41 handle to hold the parts in tions. j o
By the provision of a device embodylng the features of my invention, a simple and eiiicient device is afforded for regulating. a close or otherwise shave.
What I claim to be new is:
1. An adjustable safety razor fo'r regulating the shaving, consisting of a curved slotted plate having a serrated edge and provided with a' slottedishank portion, ahandle lwith a socket in one end and a threaded opening, a blade fastened thereto, a threaded stem upon adapted to engage s 1d threaded aperture 1n the handle and aflor ing means whereby as their adjusted posisaid holder having a threaded,
the holder and engaging the threaded opening in the handle and adapted the handle and yscrevvY are dravvn together, the shank portion of the plate may frictionally engage the handle and holdthe plate A and blade in different relative adjusted posia central threaded aperture therein, a holder and -blade secured thereto, said holde:` having a threaded stem mounted in vsaid slot and adapted to fulcrum against the contracted portion of said Wall of the slot.
4. An adjustable safety razor for regulatin the shaving, consisting of a curved slotte plate having a serrated edge and' provided with a slotted shank portion and having a rounded end, the Wall of the slot in the shank portion having a contracted portion, a handle having a socket at one end and a' central threaded aperture therein, a holder having flanges, a slotted plate having pintle ends mounted in the flanges of the holder, a blade secured to said slotted plate, a threaded stem upon the holder passing through said slot and engaging the threaded opening in the handle.
5I A safety razor, comprising a serrated plate with a slotted shank portion, a handle with a socket at the end provided with a threaded hole, a holder,'a threaded Sternl fixed thereto passing through alslot and engaging the threaded hole in the handle, said holder having lugs, a blade having apertures to receive said lugs, a clamping plate pivotally mounted upon the holder, and frictional means intermediate said pivotal plate and holder for clamping and holding the blade upon said lugs of the holder.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FERN AND CAILLETEAU.
