This invention comprehends" the provision of a canopy primarily intended for use in connection "with beds, but susceptible for use in other capacities, the invention em bodying among other features a frame like foldable structure, whichcan bequickly and conveniently set up in position for use, or folded into'compact form when its use is not desired.

'The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

A canopy constructed in accordance with my invention embodies a supporting frame like structure, which latter preferably consists of a plurality of crossed steel bands 10, which are pivotally connected together at their point of intersection, in any suitable manner. As shown in this instance one of the bands is provided With an opening 11 for the reception of a headed stud 12 carried by the other band, whereby the desired pivotal movement between the bands is provided for. The extremity of each band is provided with a socket 13 to accommodate itself to any one of a number of supporting elements, by

the shape orconfiguration illustrated in Fig.1. It is of course understood that the bands 10 are normally straight and parallel,

which permits the frame to be folded in the manner shown in the drawing. However the bands 10 are flexible, and by reason of which fact the bands can be bowed and spread to give the frame the shape shown in Fig. 1 when its'use is desired.

When the frame is used .in connection with an iron bedstead,a plurality of clamps of the type illustrated in Fig. 4 are also employed, each of these clamps embodying an arcuate-shaped portion 1a to partly em brace the end rails of the bedstead, one terminal of the arcuate-shaped portion being provided with an interiorly threaded opening which adjustably receives a threaded bolt 15, the inner extremity of which car ries a longitudinally curved plate 16 which cooperates with the arcuate shaped portion 1a in holding the clamp 'fiXed relatively to the bedstead. The opposite end of thearcuate-shaped portion terminates to provide a straight extension 17 which is adapted to be received within the sockets 13 of the bands. Manifestly four of such clampsare employed and disposed adjacent the four corners of the bedstead, and subsequent to the bowing of thebands 10, the corresponding extremities of the respective bands are spread apart to position the sockets 13 for the reception of the extensions 17. The

frame is thus supported upon the bedsteadv in an effective manner, while the rigidity of the frame is increased by use of bracing ele-' ments or strips 18. These strips are relatively long. and narrow, and are adapted to be positioned between the bands in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 when the frame is in use; The reinforcing elements or strips have their opposite extremities curved as at 19 to permit said elements to be readily and "easilyslipped over the edges of the bands 10.

When use of the canopy is desired in connection with a wooden bedstead, cot or thelike, a plurality of headed screw elements 20, clearly shown in Fig. 5 are employed, and these elements are screwed into the bedstead adjacent each of the four corners. Rising from the head of each element 20 and disposed in a line with the threaded shank thereof, is an extension 21, and these extensions on the respective elements 20 are adapted to be received within the sockets 13 of the bands to maintain the latter immovably positioned upon the bed or cot in the same manner as shown in Fig. 1.

The nature of the invention is such that it may be also utilized as individual tents for soldiers, tourists or the like, and in Whichinstance a plurality of stakes 22 such as shown in Fig. 6, are adapted to be driven in the ground, and are tapered for this purpose. Rising from the large end of each stake is a reduced extension 23, and said extensions of the respective stakes are adapted to be received within the sockets 13 carried by the extremities of the bands 10 so as to maintain the frame in the shape or conflguration as shown in Fig. 1. While any. suit able fabric maybe employed in connection 7 that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall withinthe scope of what is claimed. Y

What is claimed is 1. In a canopy, the combination with asupport, of a plurality of members fixed on the support, each of said members including-an extension, a frame-like structure including a plurality of pivotally connected bowed sections, and sockets disposed longitudinally and arranged at one side of said sections for the reception of said extensions whereby said frame is supported. 7

2. In a canopy, the combination with a support, of a plurality of members detachably associated therewith and each including an extension, a frame-like structure embodying a pair of crossed pivotally connected flexible strips, normally parallel and adapted to be bowed, and sockets disposed longitudinally and at one side of said strips copies of this patent may be obtained for to receive said extensions, whereby the frame is maintained in a bowed condition.

In a canopy, the combination with a support, of a plurality of members detachably associated with the support, and each including an extension, a frame-like structure including a pair of crossed pivotally connected flexible strips, said strips being normally parallel and adapted to be bowed, sockets carried by the extremities of said strips for the reception of said extensions, whereby the frame is maintained in a bowed condition, and bracing elements interposed between the respective strips and detachabl y connected thereto.

A canopy attachment for bedsteads embodying a plurality of clamps designed for detachable association with the bedstead, and each including a vertically disposed extension, a frame-like structure including a pair of crossed pivotally connected flexible strips, said strips being normally parallel and adapted to be bowed, and sockets carried by said strips and opening at the ends thereof for the reception of said extensions, whereby the frame is maintained in a bowed condi tion.

5. A canopy attachment for bedsteads embodying a plurality of clamps designed to be detachably engaged with the bedstead, each clamp including a curved body portion, a screw adjustably associated with one end of the body portion, a curved plate carried by one end of the screw, an extension rising from the other end of the body of each clamp, a frame-like structure includin a pair of crossed pivotally connected flexible strips adapted to be bowed, and sockets carried by each strip, said sockets opening at the ends of the strips for the reception of said extensions, whereby the frame is 1naintained in a bowed condition.

6. In a canopy, the combination with a support, of a pair of crossed pivotally connected flexible strips adapted to be bowed and detachably secured to the support, and bracing elements interposed between the respective strips and detachably connected thereto.
