GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 30, 1913. Serial No. 798,294.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RYUJI Sun, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
The device which is the subject matter of the present application for patent is clesigned to support trousers, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which is simple in construction and eflicient in use, and which is entirely concealed from view when positioned on the garment.
A further object of the invention is to provide a supporting device of the kind stated which can be readily applied, and which can be worn without discomfort.
These objects are attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the belt partly applied to the garment;
Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 38 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing a modified form of garment clasp used in connection with the belt;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a belt provided with an additional fastening means, and
Fig. 6 is a cross section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the main portion of the device comprises a belt 5 which is in two sections, the same being connected by a loop 6, and provided with adjusting buckles or clasps 7 to permit the belt to be lengthened 0r shortened to accommodate different waist measures. To each end of the belt is fastened a safety pin 8, and close to the latter, each end of the belt carries a garment clasp which may be a loop 10 having a wedge slot to hold the shirt. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of clasp, the same comprising a loop 11 associated with a clamping button 12 adapted to be inserted into the loop, said button being carried by a flexible tongue 13. Any other type of garment clasp may be used. The clasp is lo cated close to the safety pin and is secured to the inner face of the belt adjacent to the bottom edge thereof.
In use, the belt is passed around the back of the waist, inside the waist-band 1a of the trousers 15, and made fast to the latter by the safety pin 8. The belt will be so adjusted as to length that its ends come slightly forward of the sides or hip portions of the waist-band, to which they are fastened by the safety pins as stated, and
the shirt 16 is then gathered at the side seams and engaged with the clasps. The trousers are thus supported from the shirt without requiring the use of unsightly and.
uncomfortable suspenders. The manner of attaching. the belt does not wrinkle the waist-band of the trousers, and the appearance of the garment is not marred. Wrinkling is also prevented by mounting the safety pins transversely of the belt so that they are vertical when applied to the waistband, and by locating the shirt clasps close to the safety pins, the belt is prevented from turning by being pulled upward with the shirt, and as the clasps are secured close to the bottom edge of the belt, on the inside thereof, the clasps are entirely concealed as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. The belt extends only about half way around the waist, and it is therefore cheaper to manufacture as less material is required.
Fig. 5 shows a belt having means for securing the rear portion thereof to the waistband of the trousers, this supplementary fastenlng means comprising a safety pm 17 Patented Get. 23, 1917.
which is carried by the loop 6. This safety pin also extends transversely of the belt in the same manner as the safety pins 8.
The device can be quickly and easily applied, and by its use the trousers are securely held up without discomfort to the wearer.
I claim: p
A trouserssupporter comprising two belt sections, a loop positioned between the rear ends of the belt sections, length-adjusting transversely thereof, and shirt-engaging members secured to said ends of the sections In testimony whereof I affix my signature and threaded through the loop, trouser-atin presence of tWo Witnesses. taching pin fasteners carried by the free ends of the belt sections and extending RYUJI SATO.
