JOSEPH LIPOTI, OF WEST NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY.
GARMENT-SUPPORT.
Application led October 16, 1916.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr LIPOTI, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of West New York, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in supports or hangers for wearing apparel, with special reference to upper garments, as coats, vsacks and the like.
The principal object of the invention is to provide means whereby sagging or displacement of the front of the garment is prevented.
Another object is to provide such devices having means of adjustment to suit various garments, whereby they may be disposed upon the supporting hanger and adjusted for their correct maintenance, and linally, to provide hangers with means which are easily applied or removed, simple in their nature, and inexpensive in their manufacture.
These and other objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts shown in the accompanying drawing, and in which Figure 1 is a front plan view, showing a coat hanger of ordinary construction, to which is applied an embodiment of the invention, illustrating its application.
Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the same, parts of the hanger being removed, and
Fig. `3 is a partial vertical sectional view taken on the centerline of the device.
ln hangers of this class, it is common to use a wire support frame, having open looped lateral elements 10 adapted to engage within the garment to be supported upon either sideat the shoulders thereof, the elements being pivotally connected by rings 11 to an open hook 12 attachable to any conhvenient extending support capable of sustaining the weight of the garment.
Thus far the construction is that of the ordinary character; the improvement consists in an attachment comprised of a link 15, engaged with the hook 12 at its upper end, 'and connecting a thin flat plate 16, the same extending pendeiitly downward to a Specification of Letters latent.

point within the garment, where one lapel or portion passes over another.
This plate 16 is formed with an elongated slot 17, in which is slidably contained a bolt 18, provided with a wing nut 19 at its outer end, the head 20 of the bolt passing through a backing plate 22, formed with ears 23 upon both sides, the bottom portion being extended laterally, forming a pad upon the outer surface of which is secured a flexible cushion 25 adapted to make contact with the interior of the garment in an obvious manner.
The plate 22 extends above the bolt 18 and is rentrantly bent at 28, the outer front portion 29 extending downwardly in front of the cushion 25, to whichit is suited in size and shape.
Pivoted in the ears 23, by the pin 30, is a lever 32, the handle portion 33 extending outwardly toward the front, rwhere it may be conveniently grasped by an operator, the angular end 34 being engageable with the outerside of the plate 29.
When it is desired to attach a garment, the hanger is inserted within the neck opening, so that the ends 10 extend below the shoulders, the lever 32 raised to its uppermost position, whereupon the plate 29, due to its inherent resilience, springs outwardly, leaving an opening between the cushion 25 and the inner side of the plate 29, allowing the front lapels of the garment to be disposed therewithin.
lVhen the garment is adjusted, the lever 32 is moved downward, causing the garment to be clamped between the cushion 25' and plate 29, and held securely in this position.
lf the garment be out low, the bolt 18 may be moved downward in the slot 17 to accommodate, conversely, should it be a high cut garment, the slot allows the bolt to be moved upward, so that the clamps will be properly engaged with' the lapels, and support their proportion of the weight, thereby preventing the garment from assuming an undesirable shape. Y
Obviously, the exact shape of the parts may be varied, and also minor modifications made 'without departing from the scope of the claim hereto appended.
i Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letof said extensions being cooperative with ters Patent, is y said cushion, and a lever for operating said 10 In a device of the class described, the comclamp.
bination with a garment hanger, of a plate Signed at New York, in the county of New 5 pivotally secured to seid hanger, e U shaped York, and State of New York, this 11th dey clamp adjustable on said plate said clamp of October, A.
