BAG-HOLDER.

Be it known that I, OSCAR E. PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brunswick, in the county of Antelope, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to sack holders and has special reference to a sack holder designed to support a sack with the mouth of the bag open.

The principal obj ect of the invention is to produce a device of this character which can be cheaply manufactured, quickly and easily applied and operated, and which will work equally well on different sized sacks and at different heights.

A second object of the invention is to provide a novel combination of sack holder and gripping device which will enable the sack holder to be applied to a vertical beam or strut at anyl desired height without the use of bolts, screws or the like.

A third object of the invention is to provide a sack holder of this description wherein the gripping device and the sack holding elements will be arranged to swing in planes at right angles to each other, so that, no matter what the position of the gripping device, the mouth of the sack will remain horizontal.

Wvith the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specifically claimed.

In the accompanying drawing, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a front elevation of the sack holder attached to a stud, the sack being shown applied thereto in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is a plan view showing particularly the gripping device, the latter being shown in position on a stud which is indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 4, is a sectional view of one of the bag holding arms with a bag holding means connected therewith.

tion and in the present embodiment there is disclosed an angle bracket having a horizontal arm 10 and a vertical arm 11. Pivoted to this vertical `arm by means of a pivot bolt 12 is a pair of bag supporting arms 13, the lower ends whereof are bent at an angle to the upper portion and arcuately curved in such manner that, when in use, they lie substantially in a horizontal plane. The curved portions of these arms are indicated at 14 and in these curved portions are formed openings 15 through which extend wires 16 terminating in prongs 17 on the outer surfaces of said arcuate portions. Pivoted to one of these arms by a bolt 18 is an arm 19 having on its lower edge a series of ratchet teeth 20 which are adapted to selectively engage a fixed pawl member 21 secured to theother arm 13. Thus by means of the teeth 2O and pawl 21 the lower ends of the arms may be held in adjusted spaced relation.

Extending through the horizontal portion of the bracket is a bolt 22 and pivoted on this bolt is a pair of levers. The forward ends of these levers are curved as at 23 and are provided with sharpened extremities 24 while the other ends of the levers are provided with handle grips 25. The curved portions 23 of these levers have openings 26 therein and secured to these openings are the ends of a tension spring 27 which constantly urges the points 24 together.

In the operation of the device, the handles 25 are grasped and spread apart so that the points 24 are separated wide enough to fit on opposite sides of a strut or, if desired, on the corner of a vertical post or beam. The handles 25 are then allowed to move together, under the influence of the spring 27 whereupon the points 24 will be forced firmly into the supporting strut or post and it will he obvious that they may be caused to engage such strut or post at any desired place. The curved ends of the arms 13 are then inserted in the mouth of the bag and spread apart so that the prongs engage the material of the bag, the ends being held in the spaced position by means of the arm 19.

It will be obvious that when itis desired 1' to remove the device without disconnecting the bag, the same may be done by simply pulling the handles 25 away from each other and that the device may be adjusted as to height at any time or may be left in the one position and have a series of bags thereon.

Moreover, it will be obvious that the free pivoting of both the gripping ja-Ws and the bag holding arms permits the device to be applied to any beam, post or the like no matter what angle they may be disposed in, since at all times the arms Will swing directly down. There has thus been provided a simple and eiiicient device of the kinddescribed and for the purpose specified.

It is obvious that many minor changes may be madein the form and constructionof thev invention Without departing from the .material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to conine the invention to the exact formherein shown and described but lit is wished to include all such as properly carrying arms pivoted to the vertical leg,
