tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use'the same. r
This invention relates to card and letter cases, designed for containing letters,
. papers, cards and bills in the pocket, and
one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a device which will be con venient, which will occupy but little space, which will lie flat, and which will securely hold a number of papers, letters and so forth.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective" view of a card and letter case made in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and made on a larger scale, Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view showing the edges of the case pressed together to give'access to the contents.
The pocket-book or case may be made of paper stock, leather or other suitable material, and in making the case, a strip of material is taken, and bent'over at the opposite side edgestoward the center, thus forming a long blank which is doubled upon itself to form a short pocket and a long pocket as will be hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawing, the-numeral 1 designates the back portion of the case, 2 is the front portion thereof. The back 1 is extended to form a flap 3 which extends down in front beyond the front portion 2 of the case. To form the shorter pocket 4 of the case, the blank is provided with inwardly extending portions 5 on one side and similarly extending portions 6 upon the opposite side, as shown more clearly in Figs.
3 and 4. The inwardly extending members may be beveled as shown at 7, and the edgesof the members 6 are oppositely beveled as shown at 8,- so that when the pocket-book is pressed together at the side edges it will bulge outso-that the contents of the case maybe readily withdrawn.
In makingup the case, a single piece of material may be used in which the backportion, and the extended'side portions 5 and 6 are formed integraL-and after the portions I 5 and 6 have been folded inwardly, the blank isfolded on the line 9 a the bottom to from the short pocket 4 and the long pocket 4 As shown in Fig. 2, the portions 5 and 6 extend up to where the flap 3 is bent over to the front, as indicated by the letter a.
- A suitable fastening like a glove fastener may be used for holding the flap 3 connected to the body of the case.
VVhenthe two side edges of the case or pocket-book are pressed together, as shown in Fig. 4, the beveled edges 7 are forced be tween the layers 6, and when the pocketbook is flattened out the beveled edges 7 are in the position indicated in Fig. 3
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a case or pocket-book made in accordance with this invention is made up .from a single piece of paper or leather of substantially rectangular form bent inward at the sides and forming a tubular blank which is then bent on the line 9 to provide the two pockets 4 and 4 Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
What is claimed is 1. A card or letter case made from a sinple piece of material having the sides bent over toward the center, and said folded blank being bent upon itself to form two separate pockets, said bent sides forming a telescoping partition between said pockets whereby the contents of said pockets can be easily removed when the sides of the pockets are squeezed.
2. A card orletter case made from a single piece of material having the sides bent In testimony whereof I afix my signature 1tfi erktiward bthe center, 2111;} saifd folded in presence of two witnesses.
