Letters Patent No.- 113,089, dated March 28, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making par? of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, Gnoncn S. PEBFATER, of Camp Ioint, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Churns; and I do hereby declare that the followingor is a full, clear, and exact description thereofv which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming;r part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a vertical central section of my improved churn, x x, iig. 2, being the section line.
Figure 2 is a plan or top view of the same.
Similarl letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
'lhis invention relates t0 improvements in chnrns of' that kind in which a twisted dasher-rod is employed, the vertical movement of which in a narrow slotted guide will produce rotation of the dasher.
My invention consists in anew construction of guide, which is made jointed, so that the rod can readily be fitted through the same, and which is made independent ofthe churn, and not rigidly connected with it. The application oi' my improvement to all churns is thereby made possible, and the ready removal and reinsertion 0f the dashcr and rod from the churn greatly facilitatcd.
A in the drawing represents a churn-body of suitable kind.
I3 is the clnn'i-i-dasher, made in the shape of a cross, from two pieces oi' wood, or ot' other suitable form.
C is the dasher-rod, to which the dasher is rigidly affixed. Y
lhc rod is made ol' flat metal, twisted, as shown, and is swiveled in its round handle, a, so that it can revolve in the same.
The rod C passes through a guide,D, which is, as a cross-piece, applied to the upper part of the churn. lhis guide contains a narrow slot large enough to admit the rod. As thelatter'is'moved up and down by A-pivot-pin, d, passing through the parts b c,- as in i iig.v 2,-: unites them, allowing them, however, to be swung in one direction, the beveled shoulders pre' venting such movement in ,the other direction.
When the piece c is swung,r to be nearly at a right angle to the main piece b, a large opening is formed in place oi' the nurro'w guide-slot, so that the handle (o can pass through it.
The piece I) is merely crowded into the churn, und
can be removed at will. This makes all parts detachable, and permits the application of the same guide and dasher-rod to different ehurns.
Having; thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure b v Letters Patentv rIhe jointed guide D, composed of the parts b c, and
combined with the twisted dasher-rod C, substantially l as herein shown and described.
GEORGE S. PERFATER.
