Be it known that I, FRIEDA TRIEBEL, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Strassburg, in AlSaceLOrraine, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

lviy present invention relates to a box for storing hats when traveling, in which the hats are so retained that they are not damaged and the trimmings such as feathers and the like are not crushed. By it, the hats may be put in and taken out very simply and easily and the hats are fastened and unfastened by means of bands which have the advantages that when being fastened the portions of material cannot be damaged. The hats are carried yieldingly so that they cannot be shaken in transit. The hat is fastened to the surface carrying it Outside the box so that the hat may be inserted or withdrawn, together with its supporting surface, and no work has to be done in the box itself. Therefore, the user is completely unimpeded both when fastening and unfastening a hat and can give the necessary care and thought to each part. The shape of the box is convenient for purposes of carriage and is decided by the number of hats to be provided for. As a rule not more than two or three hats are accommodated and the divisions are arranged accordingly. Suitable compartments are provided in the box or in the cover which may serve for the reception of trimmings, veils and the like.

A pair of them serve to receive between them the partition for supporting the hat so that it may, together with the hat, be pushed in or withdrawn. The hat, thus, rests absolutely securely and immovably between these retaining members which take great care of the hat and render the use of any fastenings, nails and the like, unnecessary. The lid 9 of the hat box, simi' larly, carries angle pieces 71. which engage the frame 0 from the front so that it cannot move in any way and in transit when subjected to shaking or the like it is held securely.

In the. construction shown in the drawings, the space 2' can be arranged to receive accessories.

Having thus described my invention and in what manner the same is to be performed I declare that, what I claim is:

1. in a hat box a plurality of supports for the hats, means for engaging a hat, means attached to the sides of said supports and secured to said hat engaging means, and means secured'to the cover of the box and engaging the front edges of said supports for firmly holding them in their position within said box. 7
