Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 8, 1914.
Application med November 11, 1913. Serial No. 800,294.
To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known t at I, AMANDA G. DAHL- GREN, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shields for Toilet- Seats, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toilet chairs, more particularly to those employed by very young children, and has for one of its objects to provide an attachment whereby the urine is guided into thereceiving vessel and prevented thereby from being discharged outside of the vessel.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device which may be adapted without material structural change to seats of chairs, closets and the like of varying sizes and forms. Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily attached to the seat of a chair or closet by any person without previous skill or knowledge, and which may be readily cleansed without removal from the seat.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of this invention:
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a toilet seat with the .improved device attached and also in section. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the seat with the attachment in section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view of the improved device. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating a modification in the construe-- tion.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying 'drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved device comprises a guardor guide of any suitable material, attached in a novel manner beneath a toilet seat in position to receive the urine and guide it into the receiving vessel. The guard or guide may be of metal, wood or other material, but will preferably be of sheet metal pressed into the required shape and coated with non-corrosive substance or material,
surface, or
one side hollowed to conform tothe opening 12 of the seat. Depending from the member 10 is a shell or body 13 open towardthe inner side-and converging downwardly and terminating in a spout-like lower end 14, the latter adapted to be located over the receiving vessel, not shown. The members 10-13 may be pressed or otherwise formed from a single sheet as represented in Fig. 4:, or in separable parts, as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. When constructed in separable parts, the member 10 will be formed with a depending rim 15 curved inwardly to receive a head 16 at the upper edge of the shell or body 13 which is thus held from displacement downwardly. The member 10 "is provided with a plurality of outwardly directed ears 17, while the member 13 is provided with outwardly directed ears 19 but it is not desired to limit the bearing beneath the ears 17 which are located nearest to the opening 12, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The cars are designed to receive holding screws or other fastening devices 18, engaging in the seat 11.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured from various materials, and adapted without material structural changes to toilet seats of various forms and sizes, and to seats of various materials.
I Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a top member having an undercurving rim at one edge formed in sections spaced apart, a depending member having a bead at the upper edge formed in sections spaced apart and engaging respectively in the undercurving rim sections of the top member, an ear projecting from the depending section and extended between the turned-under rim sections and adapted to be secured to a support and means adapted to connect the top section and the depending section to a support at their forward edges.
2. A top member having an undercurving rim at one edge formed in sections spaced apart and with terminal cars, a depending member having a head at the upper edge formed in sections spaced apart and devices[to eedurvtheitpiniembeimnd, the engaging in the under-curving rim sections, do end member to a support. 10 an ear projecting from the depending sec- I I, test1mony,whe1reo I afiix my signation and extending between the curvedture in resenee of two witnesses.
