PAUL BTBXE, OF BERLIN', GERMANY.

Application tiled June 8, 1913. Serial No. 701,819.
.both sides with removable separating plates which allow of uncovering and releasing the rail fastenin means.
The invention is shown in the accompanyindrawing in which:
igure 1 is a cross section ofthe improved device. Fi 2 is a corresponding longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is a cross section of the fastening means, drawn on a larger scale. As shown in the drawings. in the improved street railway track the rails a are secured by means of sole ieces o, rail clips d and bolts e, onto ties fwhich are embedded in t-he street formation. Alon ide the rails and on both sides, are placed isolating platesl f and g covering the rail foot and connected together. After that a layer of concrete h is placed at each side of said plates and the stlreit ilevel is completed by a layer of aspiat For changing the track the asphalt layer is broken to an amount correspondiu to the plates and g, then said lates are withdrawn an the rails are set ree and may be removed without injuring the concrete. After having put in place andsecured the new rails to the ties b, the plates and g are put in place again and the aspha t layer i is repaired. Owing to this arrangement the replacin of the track is much-simplified and acce erated, securing an economyof time and money.
Having now fully described mysaid in-g vention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a street railway track, a tie, chairs mounted on the tie, rails su poi-ted on the chairs, clamps secured to tlie chairs. and overlap ing the flanges of the rails to fasten said rai s in position, plates located on opposite sides of each rail below the upper surface of the latter, each of said plates having an undercut portion to receive the clamps, a layer of concrete between the inner plates ot' the track, and a layer of surfacing material over the plates and abutting against the rails.
2. In a street railway track, a layer ot concrete in which the track is embed-ded, grooved rails, ties for su porting said rails, means for securing sai rails onto said ties, and comprising a sole ieee on which rests the rail foot and embe ded in said tie, clips on top and on each side of said rail foot and said sole piece, and bolts securing said clips and consequently said rail to said tie, removable separating lates between said concrete layer and saidJ rail, extending alongside the rail webs and covering the rail foot and an asphalt covering at level with the rail head and covering said concrete and said lates.
8. n a street railway track, a tie, rails supported by the tie, means on opposite aides of each rail to secure the latter to the tie, a plate located on each side of each rail beow the upper surface of the latter, each of the plates having an undercut portion to receive the rail securing means` a layer ot concrete abutting against the plates, and a layer of surfacing material located over the plates and the layer of concrete.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
