Abstract

Moulded fuel element comprises: (a) a compacted elongated body of comminuted cellulose waste and water; and (b) a thin layer of finely divided Al on the surface for reaction with the water to form H2 when the element is burned. The wt. ratio of Al: water is 1.5-3:1. Pref. comminuted waste comprises wood and paper, pref. 50% paper pulp and 25-30% wood fibre based on total element wt. Pref. the element is enclosed in a hard protective shell of matted cellulose fibres, pref. contg. peat.
