Abstract

In a system with a central unit (CEA) and one or more external units (CEB1-CEBn) which are interconnected via a two-wire line (L1, L2), a dialog is carried out between the units by sensing changes in the current (IL) in one direction and changes in the voltage (VL) in the other direction on the two-wire line (L1, L2). Digital current and voltage changes can also be superimposed on analog current and voltage changes. The units at the transmitting and receiving end have an appropriate circuit design in order to carry out the method. <IMAGE>
