Abstract

A composite fiber cutting and terminating apparatus (10) includes parent (12) and insert (42) housings supported for relative movement, the parent housing (12) supporting therein both a terminating device, such as a photodiode (84), and a cutting device (14). The insert housing (42) has a fiber receiving channel (44). Upon movement of the insert housing (42) into the parent housing (12), the fiber is retentively engaged by the insert housing (42) and is cut to define a termination end face and upon further movement into the housing the termination end face is disposed in registration with the termination device. <IMAGE>
