Abstract

In a process for producing porous granules, which can be used for industrial purposes, from a starting mixture consisting of at least one lime-containing binder (for example lime, Portland cement), at least one siliceous material (for example quartz sand, slate ash, fly ash, etc.) and water, which mixture is cast in the liquid state to give a mass, which is provided at the same time with macropores, for example by adding gas-forming or foam-forming agents to the starting mixture, the mass cast in this way is provided, after the formation of the pores and after setting to give a self-supporting, semi-plastic consistency, predominantly with a crystalline structure by hardening, for example by steam-hardening, and the cast mass is, after setting but before hardening, when the mass is still semi-plastic, comminuted to give granules which in this state are in turn subjected to the said hardening and are then used for appropriate industrial purposes.
