AWAPATENT AB Office / Administrator Application No. Where. reference Linkoping / Sofia Willquist / SZJ11016009 1 COPPER CONTAINING SCARFING MATERIAL Technical area The present invention relates to a slacking material comprising copper powder-containing materials, or containing copper wire material. The invention further relates to the use of these materials for the treatment of wounds, burns and other skin lesions.

Background In the area of special treatment, we are today facing a global problem increased antibiotic resistance, which not only defends scarring, but is also potentially fatal to people with blackheads, for example from burns, etc. It is unfortunate to find treatments that do not involve the use of antibiotics. A recent study in the field of antiseptic dressings, ie. Bandages that can be applied topically to the skin and prevent proliferation of or kills microorganisms, by Lindholm (Antiseptic preparations in wound treatment) gives an overview of the antiseptic dressings that are currently used in healthcare. Lindholm lists a number of different alternatives to antibiotics, such as medicinal honey, iodine, PHMB, hydrophobic dressings that work by attracting bacteria to the dressing and silver.

A problem with silver, however, is the lacquering of silver ions to, for example, watercourses, which is not unfortunate from an environmental point of view.

As an alternative, Borkow (Copper Oxide ...) describes the use of copper oxide in different types of joints, and EP1809306, which also this document describes the use of copper oxide for different types of sarforband.

Because the skin has a pH value <7, at which copper ions precipitate copper ions will be released on skin contact, killing bacteria and viruses. However, copper is not absorbed by the body and does not emit any ions at pH above 7. As the skin has a pH of 4.5 - 5, the copper ions are only released in contact with the skin and have a local effect. Any remaining ions on the body are washed away in connection with washing. When copper powder comes in contact with acidic moist environment, copper ions are released. How much ions are released depends on the pH and the surface exposed to moisture. A fine ground powder emits more ions compared to a coarse powder. According to the literature, human skin normally has a pH lower than pH 6, which meant that copper ions were released upon contact with the skin. if the skin is moist. Man is less susceptible to copper intake because the body regulates uptake into the liver. Antic & Mgt copper intake through the food irritates the gastrointestinal tract. Dust can also cause malaise. I have not found any reported effects due to copper uptake through the skin. Bacteria and microorganisms are particularly susceptible to the effects of copper ions. Copper powder is therefore classified as highly toxic to aquatic organisms. Waste of copper powder in flake form must be treated as hazardous waste.

By applying copper together with different materials, this can be used in a controlled context where it is justified and in it extent that is necessary.

By "substantially pure" copper is meant that the leaching material comprises copper (29Cu) in flake form and not copper in ionic form as copper oxide etc .. Copper oxide which is an oxidized form of copper also releases copper ions more easily, with the risk that copper ions are also emitted not only locally where the treatment is needed, which entails an increased risk of negative environmental impact. 3 By using pure copper in different forms and incorporating it into different materials to be used specifically when there is a need to take care of, for example, infected wounds in order to leach them, they truly prevent their spread. This can also be used in connection with operations and reorganizations at risk is present in the spread of response-mastered infections, for example in the form of multi-resistant bacteria, true in infection wards where patients are treated with different degrees of infections.

The fabric samples were placed on cultured bacterial solutions (on blood agar plates and incubated in a refrigerator for about 16 hours at 36-37 degrees. 8 In Experiment One, S aureus was grown on blood agar which was incubated for about 16 hours at 36-37 ° C. As shown in Fig. 1, copper copper wires with the dimension 0.10 mm in diameter were placed on the culture plates and these were incubated in heating cabinets. After a while, the copper line was removed and it was clear that one killing of the microorganisms has taken place, which is also shown in Fig. 2.

In a second experiment, S aureus was grown on blood days. As shown in Fig. 3, a textile comprising copper radar with the dimension 0.10 mm was placed on the culture plates and these were incubated in a heating cabinet. After a while, the textile was removed and it could be clearly noted that a killing of the microorganisms happened, which is also shown in Fig. 4.

Attempts have also been made with the copper fabric shown in Fig. 5 as well copper powder glued to a lacquer dressing. Also in these experiments S aureus was grown and after incubation with coated copper cloth respectively "copper powder tape" was clearly noted that killing bacteria took place.

From these experiments it is clear that copper has a killing and limiting effect, even though copper is incorporated into a textile material.
