Abstract

An oocyte having a polar body, metaphase plate and cytoplasm is subjected to a compound such as a phytohemagglutinin (PHA) aggregate solution, which causes attachment of the polar body to the oocyte, and then enucleated by separating the polar body and a portion of cytoplasm containing the metaphase plate from remaining cytoplasm. The techniques are useful in nuclear transplantation for the production of nuclear transfer (particularly bovine) embryos and multiple genetically similar offspring.
