Description
Box comprising a window in one or more sides, and provided with a set of reinforcement/decoration inlay plates to be placed in such way that the window can stay open or can be closed.
5
Background
The basis of the present invention is a box element with a partly open side. Like (10) in figure 1. The present invention 10 consists of a bulkhead inlay that provides two alternately functions to the box: a furniture box (solely or stacked) or as transport box.
The present invention will significantly ease the packing process of household goods or commercial product to be displayed. Simply by rotating a single component; a bulkhead inlay or a 15 similair set of sheets. To be explained later. Nb. This type of furniture (a box with 'cut out' window) is ideal to decorate inside. The present invention makes it possible for consumers to decorate and (more important) to redecorate the visible inside of their furniture boxes. Herewith tempting consumers to reuse their 20 furniture to make their personal contribution to the reduction of the use of earthly raw material and fabrication energy. The invention is a transform facility to alternate between both functions.
Vital supportive part is the partly opened side. Here after named as the frame-window side. See figure 1, (1. and 2.) This 25 frame-window side is defined as the combination of the ring shaped part (1) named 'frame', with an opening (2) named 'window'.
1038230 2
Comparable boxes in the patent literature.
Nb. Critical for a transport box with partly open side is a full and secured closing of the window and a reinforcement of the 5 window side.
Comparable, in a way, is The Faltkiste (de202007007897) from Deneskamp Verpackungswerke GM. This design contains a similar frame-window side. But it seems not practical to transform, and not strong enough to protect the goods inside, and not re-decoratable.
10 Transforming this Faltkiste from transport box in to a furniture element v.v. can only be done by first taking out all goods from the inside.
Closing this Faltkiste to use it as a transport box is ineffective and insecure. Flap (20 c) has no locking device, and is, like designed 15 in presented drawing, per definition insecure for keeping loads inside while being used as a moving box.
In addition, being used as a transport box, this Faltkiste offers no reinforcement at the frame-window side. Reinforcement that is necessary to withstand the often high loads and rough handling 20 while being used as a transport box.
The Faltkiste has no facility to redecorate the visible inside. Probably because it is not really designed to be used as a furniture box.
25 Then there are the Rigid, multipurpose polyhydric structures from Furio and Rolf (ep0165533) (structures 1/4, 2/4, 3/4). All three are presented as display-transport boxes and accommodated with the same kind of frame-window side like in present invention. However, none of these structures offer a technique to redecorate 3 the visible insides. And in the perspective that a transport box needs to be able to carry much load and resist rough handling one can state that none of these structures is suitable to function as a transport box. This is because the window cannot be securely 5 closed. A door and hinges are a weak spot by definition in transport boxes. Finally, no reinforcement to the frame-window side is designed, though this may be assumed to be a critical part. Nb. Structure 4/4 is assumed to be not comparable.

Description of the invention.
See figure 1.
5 The basis of the invention is this box with an open frame- window side. The invention is formed by a the bottom plate or sheet (12), a bulkhead plate or sheet (13) and top plate or sheet (14). Here after as a group named as 'inlay'. The inlay can be printed, colored or pasted and is rotatable. The inlay serves two functions: 10 decoration sheet (in open position (13) and as a bulkhead and reinforcement (in closed position (23), blocking the frame-window. With this a box can be used alternatively as furniture box and as transport box.
How to create a furniture type box: In the box (11) the inlay 15 can be placed: composed of bottom plate (12), bulkhead (13, in open position to the frame-window side) and top plate (14). The box (10) can now be closed by the flaps on top (3). Result: a open furniture box. Goods can now be put in- and taken out via through the window. Background can be decorated because of the printed 20 inlay.
How to transform the furniture box in to a transport box: Starting point is box (10). Flaps on top (3) can be opened, top plate (14) and bulkhead (13) can be taken out. Transformation now occurs by rotating the bulkhead (15) so the closed side points to the 25 frame-window side. Successively: lower the bulkhead (23) again and then the top plate (24). To finish, close flaps on top of the box to close the box completely. Result: a 100% closed, secured and reinforced transport box, in just a simple change. This transformation can be done while all goods stay inside the box.
5
Nb: The frame. (Figure 1, part 1) is critically supportive to the present invention: it keeps the inlay securely inside the box.
Reinforcement element. Figure 2. A reinforcement element (8) is 5 connected to the end sides of the bulkhead (2) by folding the end sides of the bulkhead over 180 dgr, outwards or inwards. An alternative reinforcement methode is a folded end of the bulkhead, folded in a triangle shape, like (9.).
Two horizontal plates (3 and 4), placed on top and underneath the 10 bulkhead, function as load divider, diverting the load placed on top of the box on to the surrounding walls of the box. The sides of these horizontal plates (3 and 4) are provided with extra foldable plates (5) which function as securing plates to keep the bulkhead, while bearing the load, securely situated on the surface of top and bottom 15 plates. These extra plates (like 5) can be folded in the direction of the center of the box and adjacent to the outer box walls.
Integrated window side. Figure 3. The window in at least one of the sides can be an integrated part of the box like (1.). In this type of 20 construction the closing flaps (2.) are situated on top side or on the bottom side of the box (2.). To create a purely flat and stable bottom and top surface, folding lines (3 and 5) are at a different hight than foldinglines (4 and 6).
25 Separate window side. Figure 4. Alternatively, window side (1.) can be a separate element of the box (3.). In the design the window can be mounted on the sideless side of the box (3.).
6
Window edge. Figure 5. The window edge can be covered in two ways: By covering at at least one side of the three edge sides by a profile type element (1.). The profile can have shapes as U-shape (like 1.), a L-shape, a hollow or massive O-ring. Or the edge can be 5 covered or protected by means of folding lines (2.) on the straight lines of the window, by extra material (3.) connected to the window edge (3.) on the folding line (2.).
Material. The present invention is applicable on boxes manufactured ίο out of materials like paperboard, cardboard, composite material, wood, wood-based materials, syntetic material, pvc, metal.
Box shapes. Figure 6. The shape of the box, seen in the horizontal plane, can be of the square type (1 and 2), pentagonal (3), 15 hexagonal (4) or round shaped (5).
Inlay types. Figure 7. The inlay can have alternative compositions: five separate inlay plates (1.), five inlay plates (2.), all connected to one another on at least one side of which one central plate hase all 20 side connected toe the other four and by a combination of four plates connected in a sort of closed ring where all plates are connected to each other at the parallel sides (3.).
