Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce 2-keto-L-gulonic acid in high yield, by culturing a specific microbial strain capable of oxidizing L-sorbose to 2-keto-L-gulonic acid in a medium added with a rare-earth element in the presence of L-sorbose. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain belonging to genus Pseudogluconobacter and capable of oxidizing L-sorbose to 2-keto-L-gulonic acid is cultured in a medium added with a rare-earth element in the presence of L-sorbose to produce 2-keto-L-gulonic acid. A concrete example of the microbial strain of genus Pseudogluconobacter is Pseudogluconobacter saccharoketogenus K591S strain. The rear-earth element may be added as metal powder, metal pieces or a compound such as chloride or carbonate. The amount of the rare-earth element is preferably about 0.0001-0.05% (W/V).
