Abstract
PURPOSE:To continuously cast a steel strip having excellent quality at good efficiency by rapidly cooling and solidifying molten steel by cooling drums or belts and keeping the specific relation at between material quality of molten steel, temp., and casting velocity. CONSTITUTION:Pouring basin is formed at gap between one pair of cooling drums or belts. The molten steel is poured into the pouring basin from a vessel of tundish, etc., and rapidly cooled and solidified at the part contacting with the cooling drums. The solidified shells formed by this are integrated and drawn to obtain the steel strip. In the above continuous casting method for the steel strip, the relation between hydrogen content [H] (ppm) just before casting, the temp. T ( deg.C) of molten metal, and the casting velocity (v) (m/min) is kept to v<=1/0.06(15.5-8X(TL-T)/(TL-TS) -[H]) in case the temp. T just before casting exists in between the liquidus line temp. TL ( deg.C) and the solidus line temp. TS ( deg.C), and to v<=1/0.06(15.5--[H]) in case the above temp. T is higher than the TL. By this method, the high quality steel strip having flat surface without any defect of pinhole, etc., is obtd. at high efficiency.
