Abstract
PURPOSE:To select a compressed picture desired by a user by simultaneously displaying the compressed picture group, which is the output of plural decoding means, together with an original picture. CONSTITUTION:The data of an original picture 1 are read, and an N number of encoders 21-2N simultaneously generate the encoding data with different compressibilities. From these encoding data, respective compressed pictures are reproduced through decoders 31-3N once. At such a time, the reproduced N number of the compressed pictures are those with different picture qualities and compressibilities. A displaying control part 4 reduces the processed pictures in accordance with displaying memory sizes, and displays them with the original picture 1 side by side on a display 5. Thus, the user selects the desired compressed picture by relatively comparing the plural pictures with the different compressibilities with the original picture.
