PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of Fe fume dust and improve the yield of tapping by blowing a small amt. of a gas from the bottom of a converter to stir the molten iron in the converter forcibly thereby lowering fire point temp. at the oxygen top blowing refining of the molten iron after prerefining. CONSTITUTION:The bottom part 1a of a converter body 1 is mounted with 2-6 pieces of nozzles 3 at equal intervals, and from these nozzles, for example, gaseous Ar is blown into the molten iron 4 after prerefining removed of Si, P, S, etc. contained in the furnace body 1 whereby the molten iron 4 is stirred forcibly. As a result, the molten iron 4 of the fire point produced by the oxygen blown through a lance 2 is stirred and moved at all times, whereby the local temp. rise of said fire point is prevented and the generation of Fe fume dust is suppressed.
