Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the productivity of L-glutamic acid, by using a mutant be- longing to Brevibacterium genus or Corynebacterium genus and resistant to adenine or thymine.
CONSTITUTION: An adenine-resistant or a thymine-resistant strain is separated from the mutant obtained by treating bacteria belonging to Brevibacterium genus or Corynebacterium genus with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine, etc. The mutant thus obtained is cultured in the conventional manner, and L-glutamic acid is separated from the fermentation liquid. The resistant strain used in the present invention is, e.g. Corynebacterium glutamicam (FERM-P No.5736, FERM-P No. 5737), and Brevibacterium flavum (FERM-P No.5138, FERM-P No.5739). The strain is pref. sesistant to ketomalonic acid as well as adenine and thymine.
