Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 2-sulfanilamidopyrathyn derivative shown by the formula I (R is branched or straight-chain lower alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 2-Sulfanilamido-3,6-dinormal-propylpyrathyn.
USE: An antibacterial agent. Exhibiting extremely improved antibacterial activities especially against Gram-negative bacilli.
PROCESS: A 2-amino-3,6-dialkylpyrathyn shown by the formula II is condensed with p-acetylaminosulfonyl chloride in pyridine, to give a 2-acetylsulfanylamido-3,6-dialkylpyrathyn shown by the formula III, which is hydrolyzed with NaOH, to give sodium salt of a 2-sulfanilamido-3,6-dialkylpyrathyn shown by the formula IV. This compound is further neutralized with H2SO4, to give a compound shown by the formula I.
