Abstract
PURPOSE: To remarkably improve the thermal efficiency and reduce the melting time so that the power consumption and operating hour may be reduced, by applying an oxygen burner as a supplementary melting fuel to a low frequency induction furnace and by preventing the radiation as much as possible.
CONSTITUTION: Base metal 2 is piled up in the main body 1 of a low frequency induction furnace and the top of the main body 1 is closed with an upper cover 3 through which an oxygen burner 4 which is a supplementary melting means is intruded. Then, gaseous oxygen and oil are supplied to the burner 4 and, at the same time, air is also supplied for spraying the oil. Under this condition, the electric current is supplied to the main body 1 and the burner 4 also supplies a supplementary heating. In this case, to adjust timings where a molten metal is produced and where the upper portion of the base metal 2 starts to melt, the electric power P(KW) supplied to the main body 1 is set as shown by the formula I. Moreover, the exhuast gas temperature T of the main body 1 is also adjusted as shown by the formula II. By efficiently utilizing the oxygen burner in this way, for example, the thermal efficiency can be improved by 40W50% and the power consumption of the low frequency induction furnace can be reduced by 30%. The operating hour can also be reduced by 50%.
