Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled material extremely excellent in color formability and stability against sunshine by using a specific azaphthalide compound as a colorless substance capable of undergoing a color reaction for a pressure- sensitive or heat-sensitive depulicate paper.
CONSTITUTION: A color forming recording material contains as a colorless substance capable of undergoing a color reaction an azaphthalide compound of formulaI(where A is a pyridine nucleus, R1 is a lower alkyl, S is H or a lower alkyl or alkoxy, R2 is a lower alkyl or phenyl, R3 is H or a C1W5 alkyl), e.g., 3-( 4-methyl-cyclohexylamino-2-ethoxyphenyl )-3-( 1-ethyl-2-methylindol-3-yl )-7- azaphthalide of formula II. The colorless substance is used as a color former for a pressure-sensitive or heat-sensitive duplicate paper to provide them with excellent color formability and excellent stability against sunshine.
