Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a masking effect and facilitate the attachment of spark plugs, by providing an intake valve near the center line of a cylinder bore and other intake valves and exhaust valves at both the sides of an axis extending on the center line of the bore, so that the intake smoothly flows into a combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:An intake valve 14 is provided on the center line 12 of the bore of a cylinder 10. Other intake valves 22, 24 are provided at one side of an axis 16 extending on the center line 12 of the cylinder bore and exhaust valves 26, 28 are provided at the other side. Spark plugs 18, 20 are provided on the axis 16 at both the sides of the intake valve 14. The tops of the intake valves 14, 22, 24 are inclined leftward and those of the exhaust valves 26, 28 are inclined rightward so that a V-shaped space is defined between them. As a result, the intake smoothly flows from the valve 14 into a combustion chamber because the intake is not obstructed by the inside surface of the cylinder 10. For that reason, a masking effect is not produced. In addition, an enough mounting space is assured for the spark plugs 18, 20.
